You would think by now there would be a way without being so evasive and troublesome the day before.

Hello, It isn't really the only way, - I assume you are talking about having a flexible, television, optic-fibre endoscope-tube up your bum? This is rather more pleasant than the old way of doing it, which was to have a non-flexible steel tube called a 'sigmodoscope' up your bum! There is NO other way to see into the large intestines at the lining for polyps, tumors, ulcers. and inflammation or bleeding. Virtual Colonoscopy this is a new method that allows doctors to look at the large bowel(colon) to detect polyps and cancers. Polyps are small growths in the colon that may become cancerous if not removed. Virtual colonoscopy is a recently developed technique that uses a CT scanner and computer virtual reality software to look inside the body without having to insert a long tube into the colon or with the liquid barium.(conventional colonoscopy). With this method its easy to see polyps and nearly as accurate as other way. The actual procedure will begin with a small flexible tube (rubber)placed in the rectum so air can be introduced. A CT is then preformed while person lies on back then stomach time for this is around 10-20 minutes. No sedation's needed. Basically no pain at all, just feel pressure from air or like might have gas.

Yes they can give you a barium drink & then take an x-ray. Anyway a colonoscopy is no big deal. It doesn't hurt. The worst part is no food for 24 hours before, but :- you can drink all you want to stay happy.
