Does anyone know anything I can do for Colon Cancer Fundraising

Does anyone know anything I can do for Colon Cancer Fundraising?
My dad was diagnosed a couple of months ago with Stage 4 colon cancer. I have been reading everything I can on it, but one of the things this oh-so-preventable-cancer is missing is the type of fundraising I only seem to find for breast cancer. I want to do everything I can to do my part to raise awareness and raise money if I can. Please let me know if you know how to do so. Anything local to the PA, NJ, DE, MD aread would be even better!

Your desire to help with this important health issue is wonderful. You may want to start by contacting your local chapter of the American Cancer Society (ACS). You should find them in the phone book. The ACS may have fund-raising programs you can assist with. You may also be able to work with them to start a special program specifically for colon cancer if they do not already have one. There are plenty of ways to raise funds for cancer awareness. Here are a few ideas: 1) a walk for colon cancer (walkers get friends and family to 'sponsor' their walk with a donation for each mile the person walks) 2) a raffle/drawing (donated artwork, cruise or vacation tickets, a 50/50 drawing, etc.) 3) sell tee-shirts, mugs, hats, etc. with a logo about supporting colon cancer awareness 4) a community auction - get local people and businesses to donate items to the auction 5) sell ribbons, pins, etc. to show support for colon cancer awareness. Best wishes and good luck.

Yes, it's a shame that more fundraising attention is not devoted to colon cancer. My recommendation is to borrow success. So many other types of cancers have what I call "fundraising machines". There is no reason you can't take what some of those organizations have done and customize it to be what you want it to be. Look into what other organizations are doing like "Relay for Life", the American Heart Association, Leukemia fundraisers and so on. If it's working for them, it will work for you too. If those organizations do these fundraisers year after year, it's because they are raising a lot of money! You can find more fundraising ideas: http://www.fundraiserhelp.com/fundraiser-ideas.htm Good Luck!

You might want to consider running a charity race night the sites below have some free useful advice. http://www.globalracenight.com http://www.racenight.me.uk

What could i have done to my dog when he had colon cancer

What could i have done to my dog when he had colon cancer.?
-My dog Sable has just recently passed away of colon cancer. We noticed that he started to swell and bleed from his butt. The cancer was so aggresive and rapid that it had stopped him from using any type of restroom in 4 days. It went from the size of a dime to the size of the tubes in his colon. We love sable very much and I was just wondering, what could've been some symptoms and how could we of caught it?

regular trips to the vet for checkups often catches cancers in pets early enough for treatment.

With a cancer that is very fast growing, I don't think you could have done much more. I am sorry that you lost your dog. I had a dog who got bone cancer. It was in her elbow joint. I could actually see it growing while the vet waited for the tests to come back! In two weeks, it had really grown. She had her shoulder blade and leg removed and she lived a few more years. When the cancer is an internal type, unless the dog loses its appetite, how would you know until it is bad? I give my dogs fish oil supplement every day now. I did lose my cocker spaniel at age 16 to colon cancer too, in 2006. He had symptoms like your dog. There isn't much to do but let go. Dogs get extremely aggressive cancers sometimes.

How many fruits per day i should eat to prevent colon cancer or polyps

How many fruits per day i should eat to prevent colon cancer or polyps?
i dont feed much on veggies cos i dont have time to cook. so i try to substitute it with fruits. how much fruits i need per day to prevent the horrible death of having colon cancer which leads bowel interuption and consequently vomitting fecal matter? i eat 2 bananas per day but im not sure it has enough fibre in it. now i added 1 piece of apple to my daily diet. is that enough?

I have been researching diet for cancer patients (see more on www.after-cancer.com) and you need to eat more fruit and veg. Doctors recommend AT LEAST five portions a day - veg. are better, but fruit is good. Why not snack on carrots sticks, cucumber, cherry tomatoes etc? But no diet can prevent cancer - all it can do is make you healthier so that if cancer comes, you are better able to recover. There is a lot of research that says that fruit and veg might prevent colon cancer, but so far no-one has come up with a definitive statement. Verite R

A diet low in fibre, including fruit and veg, is a risk factor for colon cancer. By eating plenty of fruit and veg we are doing all we can to protect ourselves against colon cancer, but no diet can guarantee prevention. Cancer's sneaky like that. Three pieces of fruit daily and no veg is not really enough for a healthy diet though. You should make the effort to include vegetables, especially green leafy veg, and grains.

Some types of colon cancer may be genetic. Also other colon disorders, which may run in families, such as ulcerative colitis or Chron's Disease can lead to colon cancer.
2 :
anythign can ge genetic. they have discovered that if ur parents r fat it will b in ur geans that u will b so is breast cancer, heart attacks, mental disorders, diabetes. eg eg u could ask ur doc all these questions so then u will get right down to the bottom of things

Could someone help me regarding dietary restrictions after colon cancer operation

Could someone help me regarding dietary restrictions after colon cancer operation?
My husband was operated on for colon cancer approximately six (6) months ago, is doing fine, but foods that were OK are now giving him diarrhea. Any suggestions regarding food, possible books to buy, etc? My sincere thanks.

Linda, you should be calling his DR. A dietitian should be telling him what kinds of foods to eat. There are foods that go through the colon that are not good for him after surgery. I'm surprised a dietitian didn't speak to him before he left the hospital. Please, call his DR and tell him what's going on. Good luck to your husband. I wish him the best.

This morning I had a bowel movement that was about 14 inches long. Is this a sign of colon cancer

This morning I had a bowel movement that was about 14 inches long. Is this a sign of colon cancer?
I have normal bowel movements everyday. Usually 1 to 2 a day. Normal size, normal color, etc. Yesterday I had 3 full bowel movements and then this morning I had a BM that was at least 14 inches long. Normal in width. Is this some type of precursor to colon cancer or some type of intestinal disease?
Cancer - 8 Answers

1 :
No.
2 :
Nope, just a very healthy BM.
3 :
No.. lol. Constipation and very thin stools are sometimes a sign of colon cancer.
4 :
I wouldn't think so. You just had a nice dump. Check out youtube for "Your friends say you're full of crap" Naturopath has good discussion on colon etc.
5 :
no
6 :
It's no symptom I've ever heard of. Colon cancer often has no symptoms, but the main ones to watch for are changes in bowel habits such as long-term bouts of constipation, diarrhea or narrow gauge stools. I found out after I ignored those changes, and began to have intense pain which alternated between the worst gas you can imagine and pain that literally doubled me over.
7 :
Sounds normal. Should have a slight S-curve, too, the shape of the colon in the descending colon and rectal vault areas.

I have collected a lot of useful information about several types of CANCER it may be useful for you please visit: http://Cancer-N-Cure.blogspot.com

Can someone explain the blood tests after being diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer

Can someone explain the blood tests after being diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer?
My dad had colon cancer stage 1 and had surgery in dec to remove it. His doctors do blood tests on him every three months. Can someone explain what kinds of tests these are. His test that he just had a month ago came back abnormal and his doctor ordered a ct scan. Could cancer already be back. We don't live near each other so I can't go with him to the doctor. Please explain

If your dad had actual stage one colon carcinoma, the odds are that it would not be back after surgery only 8 months ago - unless the initial staging was wrong. How old is he ? That simple information is so critical on this site. The three month test is probably a CEA serum marker test. It could be a CA19-9. http://www.tc-cancer.com/tumormarkers.html It sure would help if you could tell us which test he had done - and what the result was. Of course the doctors who know all the details of his case could explain this much better. Best advice always is to go with your family member when he or she sees their doctors who have all the facts of the case. - - - - My mother lives 600 miles away. I drove to be with her when she went to her doctor for bladder cancer follow-up. You can't expect the doctors to call every family member for every patient. All of my patients had cancers. There were not enough hours in each day to call all concerned family members about test results. I recall one evening I explained the test results for one patient eight different times for different family members who called my emergency line. It took hours. Doctors understand the concern that family members have. It is just impossible to tell everyone individually. Unlike lawyers, doctors do not charge for all the hours on the phone explaining things over and over - usually late in the evening or late at night.

Hi This does not answer your particular question but it may give you some insightful information on natural treatment to add to current treatment. I'm not sure if my answer helps but it's worth a try. I'm all for trying to find natural cures/help to medical conditions as drug intervention sometimes makes matters worse, which has been widely reported. If I was diagnosed with Cancer I would definitely try the pepper rout first. It's natural, it costs a few £/$ and it has very few side effects. Quite the opposite of current cancer treatments. Why is it not widely promoted: it doesn't make the drug companies any money. If you can suffer eating the pepper themselves raw try the very hot CHILLI pepper sauce you can buy in a bottle. Check the label for the right kind of peppers and make sure the peppers in in the first 3 things on the ingredients list. Add this to everything you can eat daily. In CULTURES WHERE HOT PEPPERS ARE EATEN WITH EVERYTHING THE OCCURRENCE OF CANCERS IS MUCH LOWER. CAN THIS REALLY JUST BE A COINCIDENCE? Here are a few LINK so YOU can RESEARCH it for your self. I hope it helps. Interesting answers up there. This test is of CEA levels. It will detect recurrences if any. CT scan could have been ordered simply for follow-up.
