Anybody out there with no colon {cancer} but without a colostomy, as I am

Anybody out there with no colon {cancer} but without a colostomy, as I am?
I was Dx with colon Ca first in 95, hemi-coloctomy then followed by Chemo 5 of FU. Re-diagnosed 2004 with new Ca polyps....complecte colectomy as described in Nov 06. Dealing with it, doing great. Cancer can, {and did} kiss my A** Of course not...that was a rude and uncalled for response. I am attempting to communicate with other persons in my situation, which is an unusual one, and such persons are difficult to find.

I'm very happy for you but just what is the point of your question? Are you taking a survey to find out how many people don't use colostomy pouches?
2 :
There are a few support groups out there for people in your situation. You may be able to contact them through the following support group websites: Ileostomy and Internal Pouch Support Group http://www.the-ia.org.uk/ Internal Pouch http://www.iapouch.org/ J-Pouch Group http://www.j-pouch.org/ UOAA Discussion Board http://www.uoaa.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=8 DMOZ Directory: Group Support/Ostomies http://dmoz.org/Health/Conditions_and_Diseases/Digestive_Disorders/Intestinal/Ostomies/Support_Groups/ Good luck to you.

My brother has Colon cancer, and now liver cancer

My brother has Colon cancer, and now liver cancer.?
My brother has Colon cancer, he's only 33 years old. He says it's the size of his fist, and they found a black spot on his liver. What's his chances of living :( if he goes for surgery and chemo He's my older brother, and he's been there for me my whole life, I can't lose him.

I'm sorry but I think only his doctor can speculate. Be strong.
2 :
i am sorry about your brother's condition. You should put bran in your diet right away. At least, you can save your life. Cereals are Raisin bran, All Bran, or one of your choice. Those questions can only be answers by his doctors and x-rays not a board. Sorry.
3 :
It depends if that "black spot on his liver" is metastatic colon carcinoma or not. Adenocarcinoma of the colon tends to be aggressive in people this young, but he will likely have aggressive treatment surgically and medically. The best thing to do here is take one step at a time and see. The doctors who know the histology of his colon carcinoma and can see the liver scans are obviously the best people to answer this question. It is always a good idea to go to the doctors' offices with a family member to hear what the doctors explain and to ask your own questions. Your presence with the patient at the office is evidence of approval that the information provided may be shared with you. At least that is always how I perceived it - tacit consent for all the family members who came along to my office with my patients. Sometimes I would have 8 or more family members with a patient, but that was far better than explaining a complicated scenario 9 different times for each person individually. I always encouraged my patients to bring family members in with them if they wanted the information shared. Patient confidentiality has become increasingly strict in the past ten or fifteen years in the U.S. Even for the doctors who know the details of the case, it is never possible to know how well any special individual will do or how long they might live. Every person is different. Statistical averages do not tell you what one individual will do. People often misinterpret statistics as predictions of the future. No doctor can see the future with certainty. Added note - Colon cleansing after someone already has a colon carcinoma is too late.

Can Diverticulitis "hide" colon cancer

Can Diverticulitis "hide" colon cancer?
My mom has had many problems with Diverticulitis. In Jan she was in the hospital for 9 days, and recently she was in for 3 for what they thought was Diverticulitis. After some sort of test (I am not sure what it was) it showed that she was not in active Diverticulitis, but had a build up of scar tissue from having it so many times. She was to have a colon resection next week when the doctor decided to do a colonsocopy today to rule out Crohn's and IBS. Whew...ok, almost there...so in my experience (breast cancer survivor) doctors do not always say they are looking for cancer. My mom's mom died of colon cancer, so there is a risk, but I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has had something like this happen, colon cancer being "hid" by something else. ummm....maybe you missed the onformation where I said she was just in the hospital and is getting a colonoscopy today. That would be something a doctor performs. Thanks for the helpful information.

see a doctor

Your poor Mom, Chrohn's disease can be so difficult to deal with. It can be difficult to distinguish lesions and polyps in the intestinal tract as possible cancer or just a diverticulitis. I am sure your Mom's doctor is doing what needs to be done but yes a masking can happen. Depends on how bad the diverticulitis is. If there are too many polyps to biopsy or not. Also, these conditions she has can put her at greater risk for malignancy. Talk to her gastroenterologist and ask if every precaution is being taken and what those are, just for yours and your Mother's peace of mind. Good Health.
3 :
I suppose it is possible that there could be an early cancer there, but MUCH more common is the scarring that you describe associated with repeated bouts of diverticulitis/diverticulosis. Personally, I would rather be diagnosed with colon cancer than any of the other situations you describe (diverticulitis with scarring or either of the inflammatory bowel diseases). Colon cancer in the early stages is very curable, the others are not so easily.

What vitamins should i take before starting chemotherapy for colon cancer

What vitamins should i take before starting chemotherapy for colon cancer?

Do not take any vitamins before Chemo without your doctor's consent or advice. You do NOT want a cross reaction that could be very bad. I am very serious here. ASK YOUR ONCOLOGIST! Do NOT listen to me or anyone else here. ASK YOUR ONCOLOGIST! I wish you the very best of luck in the ordeal you are about to go through. I hope you succeed with full remission. The advances in cancer control have been wonderful. I volunteer for the ACS. IF you have questions and/or fears, please contact your local ACS immediately for help. You will find they will help you get to and from chemo, will help you with your shopping, whatever you must do. We are out there for you, we fully sympathize with your present state of being. Again, I am rooting for you to be a survivor.
2 :
Yeah...ask your doctor on that one.
3 :
Yes, ask your doctor. However, don't expect him/her to get too excited about this question. No vitamin is going to make a big difference in your treatment outcome.
4 :
Some Drs believe that antioxidants (C,E, others) taken at the same time you are doing chemo stops or slows the chemo induced apoptosis (cell death) of the malignant cells. I don't think there have been clinical trials to prove this question one way or another, but in any case, this is a question that needs to be answered by your oncologist. good luck.
5 :
You shouldn't take any. Cancer cells metabolize faster than healthy ones. That's how chemo works, as I understand it. You are poisoning the cancer cells, and because of the higher rate they die before your regular cells

Speed of colon cancer

Speed of colon cancer?

Depends on the person but colon cancer can metathesizes very quickly if not treated early in stages 1 and 2. Lost a loved one to it. Pray!
2 :
It depends where it is now and these days there is so much improvement in this field! I was diagnosed at 44 with Colon Cancer my doctor was wonderful from NY and was able to remove all of it with no Chemo. or anything!! I was very lucky. I follow up 4 times a year with the Oncologist and must have 2 scopes a year now! I will pray for your father and hope all works out! These days you can live a long time with Colon Cancer!! Your doctor should know what stage it is in now you need to talk to him/her!! God Bless I am so very sorry!! Carol :(
3 :
It depends on many factors: early diagnosis, depth of tumors, etc. A colonostomy bag will definitely be needed, along with surgery, chemo, nutrtion, and mental help. I say the latter because I've read numerous studies which say that people who get depressed and have "the world is against me" attitude tend not to survive for long. One must remain positive and active in their treatments. Survival rates for any cancer is higher with early diagnosis. Being diagnosed in stage 3 or 4 is not good.

New studies on the benefits of onion juice for eliminating cancer have just been concluded by researchers at Cornell University, confirming what we have been saying all along - onion juice will cure your cancer. What they are still not understanding is how the onions should be administered to effectuate the greatest benefits in eliminating your cancer. Find out the proper procedures for onion juice treatment at: http://www.brokenearth.org/cancer

Colon cancers typically do not spread very fast, certainly not in days. It may take years before a patient has symptoms. This is why a screening colonoscopy is recommended every 4-5 years. We donĂ¢€™t really know how long it takes to move from one stage to another as when it is found we donĂ¢€™t leave it there to find out. Rarely are advanced colon cancers found it patients who have regular screenings. Colon cancer usually begins in a polyp. There are two kinds of polyps, one kind of looks like a golf ball on a tee. It is removed at the base of the tee and most of the time the cancer is contained it the part that was removed. If this is the case the patient does not require any other treatment. No surgery, no chemo, nothing. The other type of polyp is called a sessile polyp. These polyps are flat on a broad base and cannot be removed during a colonoscopy. They are usually biopsied and tattooed so that they may be surgically removed later. Best of luck to you both.

Colon cancer survival rate

Colon cancer survival rate?
ok, so my father has had tongue cancer 5 times over 9 years. every two years it has come back and removed with surgery and replaced the removed body parts with other parts of his body (he no longer has his original tongue or jaw). now, he may have colon cancer. what are his chances of survival after all this? well, after all the other surgeries, he can no longer receive radiation. i don't know what stage he is at i just know he may have it.

Well that depends on what stage colon cancer he has. If it can be removed with surgery and he takes treatment after surgery then his chances of survival are very high.
2 :
The 5 year survival rate for colon cancer is based upon its stage of progression. If a patient previously had cancer at another location, then its appearance elsewhere in the body typically constitutes metastasis from the original site. "Replaced the removed body parts with other parts of his body"? I haven't heard that story before.

Colon cancer and dry eyes

Colon cancer and dry eyes?
I know a person with colon cancer who also happens to have discomfort in their eyes, he complains about the eyes feeling dry and as if he was really tired, is there any possibility that his dry eyes might have any correlation with his cancer condition?
Cancer - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It could very well be the type of treatment he's getting. I'm getting the most common type of chemo for colon cancer, which is 5FU, Oxypalatin and Leucovorin, and tiredness and dry eyes are very common (there is a huge list of side effects, and both are listed). He should talk to his oncologist to see what he would recommend for both. He may at least be able to give him some type of drops for his eyes.

My bf found out that his dad has colon cancer. He wanted to stop our relationship, please help

My bf found out that his dad has colon cancer. He wanted to stop our relationship, please help.?
We had a talk and he said he did not mean it but he cant handle being in relationship, when he his dad has a cancer, so now we still together because he said he is sorry but it is very weird. What does it mean? Arent relationships supposed to mean helping each other, not breaking up in trouble?

To some people, being in a relationship takes lots of work - being pleasant, spending lots of time with the other person, etc. Since his focus now needs to be on his father, he may feel overwhelmed and cannot spend the time maintaining a relationship with you because all of his thoughts and time and activities will be spent on his father.
2 :
give him the space he needs to deal what he and his family are going through sounds as though he is traumatized and until you have been through something like that yourself you will not understand why he is acting the way he is, its natural ,dont be selfish just step back and give him the time to get his head around this
3 :
I just recently found out my mother has colon cancer and my bf left me granted two days before i found out about my mother he was talking about leaving, showed me what kind of man he really is he is now gone
4 :
It sounds like your boyfriend has a lot of stress right now and doesn't feel like he can juggle two relationships at the same time. The relationship period is more of a 'trial' period to see how each of you handle different stresses in different situations. Your boyfriend expresses the need to devote more time to his father right now. Have an open and honest discussion with your boyfriend. Offer your support in this difficult time in his life and if he should need any help, it is certainly alright to be of some assistance. Then sit back and let your boyfriend make the next move. If your boyfriend totally severs ties with you during your heart to heart discussion, don't dwell on the negatives..just learn from your experience and move on. Good luck.
