Just found out Theatre Teacher has Colon Cancer, What should I do

Just found out Theatre Teacher has Colon Cancer, What should I do??
I have had my theatre teacher for 3 years in a row and he was the BEST teacher of all time! This year, at the beginning of the year, he wasn't there, we just knew he was sick. Yesterday, we found out that he was internally bleeding. Today, we found out he has stage 3 colon cancer. It took all of us by suprise. We were all shocked and devastated. What can I do to help him??

First of all pray and get everyone you know that believes in the healing power of God to pray as well. Then you need to let him know how much he influenced your life. If the end is coming he will feel much better knowing what he has accomplished here. Then find out if there is anything you can do physically. Does he need someone to help clean his house, do yard work, read to him... Ask his family if there is anything you can do to lighten the load.

Oh. Mr. Taylor has colon cancer? When did you find out?
3 :
You could organize the troops for a blood drive. Then get everyone to sign up as volunteers for various tasks. Maybe the teacher will need someone to mow his yard, or walk his dog. Maybe he could use a ride to and from treatments. Or meals made and dropped off. Maybe he has kids that you could babysit -- take to the library or a movie or something. It's great that you want to help. Serious illness impacts the whole family. There are many things you can do to make their lives a little easier.

If there is a University nearby they will most likely have a medical school. You could check with them........best wishes..........they would not charge very much. Tell them your financial situation.

What is the best method or diet to help prevent colon cancer

What is the best method or diet to help prevent colon cancer?

Visit this site http://how-to-prevent-colon-cancer.blogspot.com/ to learn how to cleanse your colons, improve your digestion and prevent colon cancer, number 2 cancer killer.
2 :
You should eat a vegetarian diet with plenty of variety of fruit vegetables, nuts cereals and seeds. Read a book called The China Study by Professor Colin Hill
3 :
Take as much artificial stuff (especially sweetener) out your diet as you can and replace it with natural things (like agave nectar if you can't have sugar). Trying to cut out manmade ingredients where you CAN (it can't totally be avoided, obviously) will help some. Low-fat foods/diet foods/cereals have a lot of ingredients that aren't really good for your colon in the long run. Eat healthy, balanced meals and cut out as much junk and stuff thats solid artifical ingredients as you can. You can't completely avoid them though, and even then you still could get colon cancer anyway. Eat healthy, exercise/be active, and take care of your self then around 40-50 (depending on family history, screenings can start before 50) start getting your colon checked if it bothers you.

I know someone with Stage 4 colon cancer and getting a colostomy

I know someone with Stage 4 colon cancer and getting a colostomy?
do you know if the life expectancy is high or low?

1 :
Stage 4 cancer is not good. The colostomy report should be able to tell you for sure how advanced everything is. Everyone is different so it is impossible to tell you how "long" a person has. My dad was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in sept. 2006. They told him he has only 8 months to live. Well over a year later he is doing great. He has chosen to go without any medical treatment. He has completely changed his lifestyle, exercising and eating completely organic and healthy. He has also spent a lot of time praying. Anyways, his symptoms are gone and he feels better then ever. But like I said, everyone is different. Good luck!
2 :
For a Stage IV CRC the prognosis is very poor, and treatment is usually palliative. A stage IV tumour has penetrated the bowel wall and spread to adjacent organs. However other factor must be considered, such as nodal involvement, and metastatic spread. If it means anything to you the 5 year survival is only 8% for an untreated stage IV tumour. I know this is quite scientific, but it is impotant to remember every case is different. The fact that doctors are attempting a colostomy is very positive, and your friends prognosis will depend on the outcome of this surgery. If there is no metastatic spread this operation could cure his cancer. In my opinion it is best to wait til after surgery and speak to the surgeon. Hope everything goes well :)
3 :
Dad lasted 5 years at that point. It moved to his lungs. If it is Vietnam related, contact your local purpleheart.com organization for financial assistance right away. They will do the leg work for you.
4 :
As David C. said, the 5 year survival rate is only 8%. My husband lived only 10 months and 1 week after his diagnosis; not quite 4 months after undergoing his colostomy (as well as a 2nd surgery and numerous complications). He was 58.

I believe colorectal cancer is of the colon and rectum.
2 :
Yes colorectal cancer & colon cancer are the same thing just some people use different terms to describe it. Colorectal cancer basically covers me areas the colon the rectum & the appendix. I have had colorectal cancer I wasdiagnosedd at 28 Im 34 now. If I can be off anymore use in this topic or anything else to do with bowels in general then please just get back in touch ok?
3 :
lalala - It is a "play" on meaning or words with part overlap. The colon includes the right-sided ascending colon, the transverse colon, and left-sided descending colon. Where the colon ends, the rectum begins and continues to the anus. The term "colorectal" includes both the colon and rectum or may be used to cover both parts even though the cancer is in the colon only but loosely called "colorectal."

Fiber, fiber, fiber. http://www.coloncancerprevention.org/main.htm
2 :
fiber . It scrapes your insides clean. The easiest way is to eat a bowl of raisin bran every day. You'll be "regular" too..
3 :
Low fat diet, lots of fiber, water. Make sure you have a colonoscopy every 5 years or as recommended depending on your age and family history.
4 :
Eat lot of fruits with plenty of fiber content. Have regulor meals. Go for a jog daily. Beware of spicy foods. Avoid acidic foods & fruits. Kick coffee. Do not smoke. Avoid alcoholic drinks. Cut out fatty foods. Avoid anything that contains sorbitil. Drink lot of fluids. Stools should be smooth,no puffing.
5 :
Lots of water, and Mangosteen Juice. This one has phytonutrients called Xanthones. Go to www.pubmed.com and enter xanthones to read about them. another great site, is www.mangosteenexperiences.com check out how Cancer can be healed with this juice and drinking lots of distilled water .
6 :
low fat, high fiber, low residual
7 :
One way to help prevent all types of cancer is to lower your bodies ph levels. I take magnesium that I get only from high end health food stores like High Health in Scottsdale Az. High Health also sells on-line but I can't rememmber their web address. I also take Royal Jelly. It has such a low ph it is very bitter and burns on the way down. I'm 74 and cancer runs in my family. I've been taking magnesium amd royal jelly since I was about 30 and I have not developed cancer. I only take the fresh, it works best, get my royal jelly from http://www.beeroyalproducts.com . They used to be called Tamara Royal Jelly. They have the best quality for the price. It will also stimulate your labido, like I said I'm 74 and still going strong.
8 :
High fibre
9 :
Like they've already said, lots of fiber, low fat diet, and lots of water. The single best prevention for colon cancer is regular colonoscopy. If you have a family history of colon cancer, you should have a colonoscopy at the age of 40 or 10 years before your family member was diagnosed with colon cancer...whichever comes first. If you don't have a family history of cancer, the American College of Gastroenterologists recommend having a screening colonoscopy at the age of 50. When you have your colonoscopy, the doctor will tell you how soon you need to have another one. Depending on what they find, it may be 1, 3, 5, or 10 years.
10 :
Lots of clear water, fiber, fruits and vegetables, etc. All of these are very helpful in keeping a healthy colon. However, there are still no guarantees you wont get colon cancer. My father was the healthiest eater I have ever known. He always was eating high fiber foods, all the things necessary for good colon health and he still developed colon cancer and died of it. It took him down in the matter of less than a year after being diagnosed. He was the LAST person on earth that I would have ever guessed would get colon cancer. So..it shows you should still eat high fiber foods, etc anyways just to make sure your colon gets the chance to stay clean and healthy. Without them your chances of colon cancer are even higher.

How long after finishing chemo for colon cancer should I have my next CAT Scan

How long after finishing chemo for colon cancer should I have my next CAT Scan?
Are memory problems common after going through chemo?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Memory problems are common but your physician is the one who makes the determination as to when you need another scan to follow your progress. They often give the chemo months to work before doing a repeat scan to see if the tumors/cancer has shrunk. It doesn't happen quickly. Ask this question of your doctor/oncologist.
2 :
It's pretty common to have cognitive impairment, but it is not clearly established that chemo causes it. There is a lot going on in cancer diagnosis and treatment that is believed to contribute. The oncologist should order a CT scan as recommended by the follow-up guidelines for your type and stage of cancer. Is there a reason why you did not ask him about it?

Are there cilia and flagella in colon cancer cells

Are there cilia and flagella in colon cancer cells?
I guess if the teacher fully explained the project maybe I wouldn't have had the question.
Cancer - 1 Answers

If you knew what these were, you wouldn't have to ask this HOMEWORK question. ADD, I'm going to help you because your teacher didn't fully explain but next time when you don't understand something, ask the teacher to explain further, That's what they get paid for. Celia are small, hairlike processes on the outer surfaces of some cells that will aid in metabolism by producing motion. Flagella is also a projection that performs a whip-like propelling to move a cell. Since the colon would need these to move digested food through them, then yes, the cancer cells would also have them. I will look up more material if you need it. OK. Cilea and flagella work together but not in all cells, In the colon, the main function of both is sort of push the water through or fluid through the colon. Since there is both on the cells, my search revealed that not all colon cancer cells will have cilia and flagella because some colon cancer can be the result of another type of cancer metatasizing to the colon. It's a tough question one I thought I really knew until I looked it up. If I were you, I'd say yes to the answer. Good luck and I'm sorry if I misjudged you, Your teacher is not very good if everything wasn't explained to you, Just ask him/her next time. You should be able to get the extra help. Do good.

Just because I have low Iron level does not mean I have colon cancer does it

Just because I have low Iron level does not mean I have colon cancer does it?
My iron level is low and the gastrologist I seen because of stomach problems (they found out it was my gallbladder and it was removed) but he still wants me to have a colonscopy done because of low iron. Why? I could just be anemic right? Why is that what he thinks? Has anyone heard of this?

Take it easy. Our minds tend to turn to the worst. There are many thing that could cause that. Just follow your doctor's advice.
2 :
It only means you need to consume more protein in your diet. Nothing more, nothing less. To rule out lower intestinal sources of bleeding, your doctor may recommend a procedure called colonoscopy. A thin, flexible tube equipped with a video camera is inserted into the rectum and guided to your colon. You're usually sedated during this test. A colonoscopy allows your doctor to view some or all of your colon and rectum to look for internal bleeding.
3 :
No, it does not follow that you have colon cancer. Please talk to your doctor.
4 :
The low iron could be from Internal Hemmoroids. My husband was diagnosed with Low Iron because he was losing alot of blood due to his hemmoroids. He had both internal and external ones. Yes, you can also "just be anemic". Only a Colonoscopy will tell you the truth.
5 :
Anaemia has many causes. Asymptomatic colon ca. is very rare cause.Family history is important.Your doc. should ask for occult blood in stool microscopy,if positive, then only advise colonoscopy. He should have ruled out more common causes like worms, nutritional deficiency etc.first. I advise you to have second opinion strongly.
