My Uncle had colon cancer & died soon after it was discovered only a colonoscopy would rule this out If you are young forget this you probably have irritable bowel Check with your DR
2 :
it is very preventable..I think its smaller skinner bowel movements is one of the first signs. and some blood
3 :
Some people just don't know until its way too late. Its a general rule to see a doctor in your 40's- 60's . If you have a family history of Irritable bowels/ stomach problems talk to a doctor about it . Keep a healthy diet and steer away from red meat. Get a colonoscopy every 5- 10 years. Keep your colon clean.

A blood test would show something as would scans or an endoscopy. Only a doctor would be able to test you.

Honey take a deep breath and relax. The fecal occult blood test is very easy to do and very accurate. It can be done at home. You can get the kit from your doctor or from the pharmacy; Webmd explains how it works. Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) A fecal occult blood (FOBT) test finds blood in the stool by placing a small sample of stool on a chemically treated card, pad, or cloth wipe. Then a special chemical solution is put on top of the sample. If the card, pad, or cloth turns blue, there is blood in the stool sample. An FOBT may be done to check for some intestinal conditions or colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer affects the large intestine (colon) and the rectum. Blood in the stool may be the only symptom of colorectal cancer, but not all blood in the stool is caused by cancer. Other conditions that can cause blood in the stool include: * Hemorrhoids. These are enlarged, swollen veins in the anus. Hemorrhoids can develop inside the anus (internal hemorrhoids) or outside of the anus (external hemorrhoids). * Anal fissures. These are thin tears in the tissue that lines the anus (anal sphincters) up into the anal canal. * Colon polyps. These growths of tissue often look like a stem or stalk with a round top that is attached to the colon. * Peptic ulcers. These crater like sores develop when the digestive juices made in the stomach eat away the lining of the digestive tract. * Ulcerative colitis. This type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) causes inflammation and crater like sores (ulcers) in the inner lining of the colon and rectum. * Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This is the abnormal backflow (reflux) of food, stomach acid, and other digestive juices into the esophagus. * Crohn's disease. This type of inflammatory bowel disease causes inflammation and ulcers that may affect the deep layers of the lining of the digestive tract. * Use of aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). A fecal occult blood test may be used to check for colorectal cancer, but it is never used to diagnose this condition. Other tests for colorectal cancer include a digital rectal examination, barium enema, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, or CT scan (virtual colonoscopy). Checking for hidden (occult) blood in the stool can be done at home. You can buy a test kit at a pharmacy without a prescription, or your health professional can order a test kit for you to use at home. If a home fecal occult blood test finds blood in your stool, call your health professional.

first off lay off the fast food. if you can't cook or don't have time go to the store and buy some prepacked things that include veggies of some type. Next talk to your dr. s/he will probably check for blood in your stool and if the test is positive then you'll probably get scheduled for a colonoscopy which is not fun but it is the only way to see if you have any lesions or polyps in your colon. if there are the dr will remove and biopsy them to see if they are cancerous.
4 :
The only way to be tested for colon cancer, if it is not very advanced, is by colonoscopy. However, given your age and lack of symptoms, this will not likely happen. Change your eating habits you’ll feel better.

How can you tell if you have colon cancer? What are the sign

How can you tell if you have colon cancer? What are the sign?

Most colorectal cancers begin as a polyp (say "pahl-ip"). At first, a polyp is a small, harmless growth in the wall of the colon. However, as a polyp gets larger, it can develop into a cancer that grows and spreads. See your doctor if you have any of the following warning signs: Bleeding from your rectum Blood in your stool or in the toilet after you have a bowel movement A change in the shape of your stool Cramping pain in your lower stomach A feeling of discomfort or an urge to have a bowel movement when there is no need to have one Other conditions can cause these same symptoms. You should be checked by your doctor to find the reason for your symptoms.
2 :
you may see a little blood in your bowel movement. The only definitive way to get a dx is to have a colonoscopy under general anesthesia in outpatient. They will inspect the colon and take a sample of tissue for a biopsy if needed.
3 :
Agree with Geoduck- a colonoscopy is warrented and should relieve any worry you might have about colon cancer-good luck and stay healthy

Maybe or.... It can be that you eat too much hot stuff and it cause you but to bleed.
2 :
You could just have a bleeding polyp. You could also have bleeding hemorrhoids.
3 :
no - only if it is black. you probably have a hemorrhoid
4 :
Rectal bleeding is one of the most common colon cancer symptoms, but it is only one symptom. In absence of any other symptoms it does not indicate cancer.
5 :
If it is red blood, then no...it is probably coming from hemorrhoids, or perhaps a fissure; eat a higher fiber diet and get more exercise and it will go away. "Occult" or hidden blood, which you would only see by being tested sometimes indicates a more serious condition. Eat better & exercise, and if it's still happening in a month, see a doctor...

Colon cancer, how to prepare

Colon cancer, how to prepare?
I recently found out that my mother received some bad news regarding a biopsied hemorrhoid. According to the attending physician, she has what appears to be "rectum" cancer... which I'm not familiar with at all. She was told by her normal physician that if cancer was found in a hemorrhoid, then it has been found very early. My question is how accurate is this assumption? If anyone can give details of dealing with "rectum" cancer (possibly colon cancer) either personal or a loved one, I would appreciate any information. Thanks...

First of all, I'm not going to challenge anything a doctor says, and you shouldn't believe anyone here who does. The rectum is the bottom part of the colon. Sometimes physicians just refer to "colorectal" cancer. I'm not sure, but I think cancer in the rectum is more common than in other parts of the colon (ascending, transverse, descending). I have colon cancer, but not in the rectum. I don't know about preparing. I just did what the doctors told me to: tests, drinking strange stuff, getting cut open, lying around in pain, doing chemo. The usual. It really doesn't matter how accurate the assumption is. It doesn't matter how early or late the cancer is. Nothing really matters except that you talk to the doctor about how to treat it. Even that doesn't matter too much, because the doctor's decision is likely based on hundreds of other cases. I thought about getting a second opinion, but when I realized I'd have to go through all the same horrible horrible tests again, I decided I'd rather just trust the first doctor. But the tests won't be as bad in your mother's case, because she's at an earlier stage than I was and if you live in the US, she'll be drugged up well first. There's a LOT of garbage out there on the internet: tens of thousands of pages on "sugar feeds cancer", "mangosteen juice and goji berries make tumors disappear like magic", etc, all quoting each other verbatim. When you have cancer, it's like the snake-oil salesmen come out of the woodwork to prey on you. I highly recommend you avoid it altogether and consult only with doctors. Get a second opinion if it makes you feel better. Just get moving. Because if it metastasizes then you're looking at a 5-year survival chance of under 50%.

Colon cancer with endoscopy

Colon cancer with endoscopy?
Does an endoscopy diagnose colon cancer?
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
No you need to have the colonoscopy. This way the cancerous polyps are removed during the procedure. Then they repeat the procedure and ensure it has not entered the walls.
2 :
An endoscopy only will show a limited part of the colon.A colonoscopy & other x rays are needed to rule out cancer in the rest of the colon if there are symptoms of colon cancer present or to rule out cancers.
