I am having a difficult time deaing with stress. I may have breast cancer after battling colon cancer.?
I am in the middle of a divorce from my sociopath/narcissist husband who sends me text messages asking about my health. Starting a new job at the same time and my child hates college. What can I do to relieve stress?

Hi from France Ask to a TRUE doctor Miss .. If you are so worried .. Come on Have a nice day, Cat.
2 :
have dinner with friends, see a movie, go to the gym, speak to a counsellor, get a massage, find a new hobby, read a good book, have a long bath, talk to your child, talk to me lol
3 :
Do things that you enjoy read a good book take trips to somewhere you want even if you think its impossible im 18 but i know if i was in that situation i would take time for myself do things i enjoy got to the beach reminence about good old times and enjoy life get away for a little while this is your life and you only live once theres no such thing as impossible always believe God will get you through this and he always has a plan for you talk to him and give him your worries to take care of my mom tells me this when im stress and i dont worry because nothings impossible for him ill keep you in my prayers tonight

My favorite saying for times like this is:- How do you eat an Elephant - One bite at a time! Deal with only what you have to. Until you get test results and a diagnosis, don't worry about the breast symptoms, they might be cancer but they might not. Worrying won't change it. If you don't want to answer your Ex - ignore him. You are divorcing him anyway. Starting a new job is stressful, but use it as a distraction from your worries about your health. Your child hates college? Tell them they can get over it, or come home and get a job and nurse you while you are going through treatment. Right now is the time to be a little selfish and start putting yourself first.

Colon Cancer and no insurance

Colon Cancer and no insurance!?
I've been having symptoms of colon or anal cancer for several months now, but will not have insurance coverage until jan or feb!! I've been avoiding going to the emergency room or some clinic because I'm scared that if it is discovered before insurance, it will be considered a pre-existing condition and they will not cover treatment related to the cancer. Not sure what to do or if that is even the case. Any advice? Thanks, I'm praying that it is nothing serious. p.s. in an attempt to avoid any hurtful jokes, I have NEVER had anal sex. On many occasions the toilet bowl has been completely red after a movement. Pain after movements for several hours. Pain during movements (even it is soft). The blood is bright red.

i really think it is disgusting how people in your country cant get the best medical treatment, for free, you need to come to Australia, we too have medical insurance but that just means if you are covered you can get a fancy hospital room and things like dental work can be done right away instead of a waiting list. I had a gynecological problem a few months back and for absolutely free i saw a doctor who referred me onto a fantastic gynecologist who helped me with my problem. Peoples health shouldn't count on whether or not they have money or insurance.
2 :
Yes, it would be considered a pre-existing condition. You might have to wait a while after your insurance kicks in too. I'd like to know why you think you have cancer? Possibly you only have hemorrhoids. That would cause bleeding. I'm not a doctor or a nurse but I would think if the blood is red. Like fresh then it would probably be hemorrhoids. You could have diverticulitis's which causes pockets in the colon and causes pain. Eat rice and try to clean out the colon. See if that helps. You could go to the health food store and pick up a super colon cleanser. A gentle herbal method of helping you clean out the colon. Try to stop eating anything with seeds or take the seeds out when you eat things like tomatoes. No nuts. Read up on diverticulitis's. I hope this helps. I hope you are really alright. Good luck
3 :
What symptoms are you talking about? Did you find a polyp? Go to the doc, get a flex sig (its less expensive). Why would you not want to shell out 150 bucks for a test that could save your life? Not having insurance doesn't mean you can't go to at least an office visit. Or you can wait, but there is a big difference between getting a polyp snipped out and having a colon resection with a colostomy bag after waiting.
4 :
There are health care clinics that will go by your income , such as Planned Parenthood and Community Health Care Center. Also based on what you said , It sounds like it could be IBD , inflamatory bowel disease or colotis or IBS irratible bowel sydrome .My fiancee went to the doctor for similar symtoms and found out it was IBD and it can be cotroled by eating the right diets, but only a doctor can diagnose for sure of what it is , the sooner the better, good luck.

God Bless you, especially during this difficult time of your life. From family experiences with this kind of situation (cancer), I understand the personal trials and financial strains placed upon a person with such symptoms. But you cannot avoid a disease; instead, one has to face those fears, in spite of the potentially negative news. And what if it isn't cancer at all? I'd visit a doctor as soon as possible, and pay for it in cash if at all possible. It is possible that one would not provide an accurate soc security number, and one could use a close friend's telephone number and mailing address. May the Lord Jesus Christ walk with you during this difficult challenge in your life.
6 :
I think you are probably letting your imagination get the best of you. Many things cause bright red blood in the stool following a bowel movement. It could be an anal fissure, hemmorhoids, or proctitis. You should go to your doctor for a sigmoidoscopy. This is done in the office. He will run a scope into your rectum (sigmoid colon) and look around. If you have no money or insurance, you can make payment arrangements. RN
7 :
I would never presume to diagnose whether you have anal or colon cancer based on what you have told me. In truth, the symptoms don't really sound like either of those entities. Be that as it may, let's assume for a minute that it is. If you wait for several months without treatment, you risk considerably more than being unable to get insurance coverage. After all, insurance won't do you any good if you are dead...... I would strongly suggest that you get this checked out. Consider going to a gastroenterologist. Explain in advance what your financial situation is and often they will be willing to cut a deal for less since you will be dealing cash on the line. I suspect that a physical examination and a basic examination called an anoscopy will give you your answer. The gastroenterologist will want to do a full colonoscopy for completeness, but my guess is that you will already have your answer and considerable peace of mind before the colonoscopy

I know there's probably gonna be some smartalick that gives you a whole synopsis of the situation but I'm gonna give you the simplest, easiest, most credible answer you can use ... last year my dad died of colon cancer ... the reason he died was because by the time it was discovered the cancer had spread to his liver .. in other words, if it's caught in an early phase, it's treatable ... this makes me comfortable because around the time my father gave up treatments, I was diagnosed with colitis, which is a type of inflammation, or as you put it, infection of the colon .. my meds don't cure me but keep my condition in control, and I was assured by my doctor that it wouldn't cause colon cancer because I'd always be under a watchful eye .. you need to remember that with your father ... he's being treated right now, which means if by chance his illness becomes cancerous, it'll be caught in such an early phase that the cancer wouldn't have a chance ... he's in a very good position right now, remember that visit this site http://how-to-prevent-colon-cancer.blogspot.com/ to learn how to cleanse your colons, improve digestion and conquer colon cancer, number 2 cancer killer.
2 :
It might cause the cancer, but, why don't you discuss this with your dad's doctor. More so, look up colon infecton, on Web MD.com it' s a medical website that can give you more information and you can print that and take it to your doctor and talk to him about it. I hope this will help. Good Luck. God Bless.

I am so sorry :( My best friends dad was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier this year and he had to get a surgery to get it removed and after that he was fine. So yes it can be cured it just depends on how quick they catch it. I hope your dad recovers.
2 :
The five year survival rate is about 60%.
3 :
yes my teacher had it and shes a little weak (she could only work half a day) but she got cured
4 :
sorry to hear that, i think it can be cured, but do some research google it
5 :
Well here's a site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorectal_cancer Cancer get's more and more curable! I'm sure if it was found in an early stage he'll be fine! I really am sorry though ): Being scared is normal and I think when he tells you just tell him everything will be fine. People survive more when they have hope & love goood luckkkk i wish you the very best
6 :
http://www.coloncancerfoundation.org/?gclid=CNSLko6sk5wCFRM_xwodK2yodw there's a website i found about it.... i'm sorry for this to happen to your family... good luck and best wishes to your dad and your family and you
7 :
There is no cure for cancer. Idk anything about colon cancer, but my grandma has throat cancer and like cancer in her mouth. they can't cure it. they remove it, but it's only temporary. it always comes back. i know she went through lots of chemo and radiation which helps. but it's very hard. i wish you and your family well. your dad will tell you when he's ready.
8 :
I wouldn't get freaked out for a variety of reasons. One is his chances of survival are fair. They have modern technology that gives him a fair chance of survival. The other thing and I am not sure if I should say this is that if the worst happens we all have to make that trip. The truth is you could leave your house tomorrow and get hit by a car and your family would never get to say goodbye or anything. So look on the positives first that he is probably going to be ok the percentages are with him and second its really a blessing if it takes a turn for the worst that you got to have so much time with him; a lot of people don't get that.
9 :
if its early in its stages, it's most likely beatable. my mother has reoccuring colon cancer. she recently got it really bad (stage 4) and after a couple surgeries to remove the tumors, and a year of chemotherapy sheeee is now back to work! it depends on the person really and the attitude also if you catch it early, it's easier to cure. just stay positive!
10 :
I'll give it to you straight: this is one of the worst cancers you can get. As far as how "curable" it is, I am afraid there is not a straight answer on that, however. It can be curable, certainly, especially if caught early. But sometimes it is fatal. In fact, it kills 600,000 people a year. But thousands and thousands of people survive it, too. It ultimately depends on what stage of the cancer it is in. The earlier the stage, the higher the prognosis for survival. Anyhoo, I don't normally suggest Wikipedia, because it cannot be trusted. But I checked it out, and its article on colon cancer is actually pretty good. So check that out. I also recommend the following websites for more information: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp http://www.webmd.com/cancer/ http://www.cancer.gov/ The first and last one also have online question services and counseling advice, which I highly recommend. Ask lots of questions and you'll get lots of answers. In any case, hang in there. The more positive you are, the more likely the chances of survival. Everyone has to pitch in and help in situations like this to reduce the stress level for the patient, which aids in recovery. Keep upbeat, work hard in school and at home, and discuss everything together. Lean on one another. Your dad can get through this, but it will take everyone working together to be brave and strong. Good luck!

Most colon carcinomas are being cured these days in the USA, but the chances for long term survival depend heavily on the stage of the disease which you do not tell us. Expected number of cases in the U.S. this year is ~110,000 with less than 50,000 deaths from colon cancer. ACS (American Cancer Society) data. To learn "everything about colon cancer" - you will need to do a great deal of reading. Here's a good place to start : http://www.medicinenet.com/colon_cancer/article.htm "The long-term prognosis after surgery depends on whether the cancer has spread to other organs (metastasis). The risk of metastasis is proportional to the depth of penetration of the cancer into the bowel wall. In patients with early colon cancer which is limited to the superficial layer of the bowel wall, surgery is often the only treatment needed. These patients can experience long-term survival in excess of 80%. In patients with advanced colon cancer, wherein the tumor has penetrated beyond the bowel wall and there is evidence of metastasis to distant organs, the five-year survival rate is less than 10%. In some patients, there is no evidence of distant metastasis at the time of surgery, but the cancer has penetrated deeply into the colon wall or reached adjacent lymph nodes. These patients are at risk of tumor recurrence either locally or in distant organs. Chemotherapy in these patients may delay tumor recurrence and improve survival."
12 :
You have the right to be concerned. Colon cancer can be cured. The sooner the cancer is detected the better. The oncologist will come up with the best line of treatment. It may include removal of the cancerous lesions, drugs, radiation treatments and so on.
13 :
hi , sory to hear about ur dad but hes old school an embarassed to talk about it, so here best advice to you ok, be patient an just take ur dad out fishin or somethin like that ok then set the mood right maybe some beer or wat he really likes, then in calm jokin voice you joke about it, in a round about ways, then little by little you ease yourself into it by sayin that if you were to be exposed to this type of cancer you wouldnt want to let it out except to someone realy close to you. then tell ur dad u love him if you do??, lol lol , an that he can come to you on advice if he needed to. also try giving your dad some st. johns wort, it good for lots of things or peppermint oils also give him, it cant hurt any. also some say try alkaselter tablets to cleean intestinal tracts,
14 :
Here. This is an excellent website , and can answer your questions a lot better than I can Now, you ask, " can it be cured." Yes! My wife had it back in Sept of 2001. She is fine! you'd never know she had cancer. She does, and will, see her surgeon once a year for follow up, other than that' it is ancient history. I have also used her surgeon for some minor skin surgeries and colonoscopes, ( my father had colon cancer --at age 72, and lived util age 89.). Sure, you feel upset, frightened, worried, tense, anxious, who wouldn't ? Just remember this, cancer is NOT a death sentence. I hope when it is over, you and your dad look back and say " we went through all this", just like my wife and I did.

Bowel blockage from colon cancer

Bowel blockage from colon cancer
My dad had surgery for colon cancer almost four years ago. A few months ago he had problems with his stomach/using the bathroom. The first x ray showed some sort of blockage. The second x ray a week later showed nothing. This past week he had a similar problem but it wasn't as bad. He also had hernia surgery in his stomach. Are blockages common after colon resection or hernia surgery? Does finding a blockage mean the cancer is back or could be it be due to the surgery? Thank you for any info.

could be due to the surgery i have a family member who had prostate cancer and when they removed his testie and prostate they mess up his colon and he has a hard time pooping. I don't think the cancer is back i hope not but i would try taking laxative's to help the poop come out better at least that is what they told my brother in law.

Whenever you have a gastric surgery your at risk for developing adhesions. Sometimes these go away, or breakdown on their own but sometimes they do not. These adhesions can bind the bowel, kink the bowel and generally wreck havoc. Some people are very prone to developing adhesions and unfortunetly can get into a cycle of operations to remove them, followed by more adhesions.. I understand that with the history cancer is a big concern. However, since you said that the blockage was there one time and gone on the second x ray it seems less likely its a revisit of the Cancer. This sounds more like part of the bowel is twisted or shifted and material got caught there. In the hospital we try to decompress these folks stomach. Meaning nothing by mouth , a Nasogastric tube to rest things and see if the plugged up area will open up. Now..... I can not stress this enough. Since yoru dad does have a history of Colon Cancer. Anything with his bowels going wrong or just not working correctly needs to be evaluated by a Dr. Bowel obstructions are diffrent than constipation and they can kill you quite easily. I think I'd also be asking for something more than just a run of the mill abdominal series. Plain x-rays just really don't tell you too awful much. Get a good oncologist who can really look into this.

Can colon cancer kill if not detected, and is it treatable

Can colon cancer kill if not detected, and is it treatable?

Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
colon cancer is referred to as the "silent killer" but if found early is very treatable, my mother is now a 24 year survivor of colon cancer, early screening is the best way to catch this cancer at an early stage.
2 :
Colon Cancer is very deadly. Just behind Lung and Breast cancers. It may be treatable depending on how far advanced it is once detected. However it is almost completely preventable! 99+% of colon cancers start as a polyp. Have a colonoscopy at 50 - sooner if you have a family history of colon cancer. If there are any polyps, they get biopsied. One less thing to worry about. Good luck.
3 :
Colon cancer is fatal. Screening is important but some screening procedures (colonoscopy for example) has its own risks. Colon cancer (colorectal as well) are treatable. Early detection and prevention, just like any other cancer, is key. High protein content in diet is known to cause colon cancer along with lack of fiber in diet. (colon is involved in amino acids and peptides absorption)
4 :
My grandmother died from colon cancer. It is one of the most treatable cancers if it's caught early, if not then it's one of the deadliest.

Colon cancer reoccurring

Colon cancer reoccurring
In August 2004 we found out my dad had colon cancer. He had surgery to have it removed in October 2004. Had chemo from January-June 2005. Since then he has had good check ups. He had a CAT scan about a year ago and all was fine. He hasn't had a colonoscomy (sp) in three years and he's due for one in September. He had surgery last November to remove hernias that were a result of his cancer surgery. In June he had problems with his stomach so he went to the doctor. They thought he had a stomach virus. They did X rays and at first they thought they saw something so they did more and sent them off. It came back that they didn't see anything. This past week he was having problems with his stomach again. It got better yesterday. He is suppose to go back to the doctor tomorrow. It scares my family and I that his cancer may be back. His surgery was four years ago. I'm wondering if there are any stats on anything of the chances of it coming back around four years or so. Thanks for any info.

Cancer is one of those things that there isn't any way of predicting its ability to return beyond "it can". He can help prevent it from coming back by maintaining good digestive health, which I'm certain his oncologist told him. I don't know if anyone has ever suggested this to him, but studies have shown that eating two pounds of broccoli every week can greatly reduce the risk of colon cancer, but I don't know about its ability to prevent it from returning once a person has colon cancer. Either way, broccoli is extremely good for digestive health in general, so I doubt it would hurt him.
2 :
Sadly enuff to say, this is a very hard time for your whole family and your dad as well.. And sadly enuff to say, cancer can't reoccur.. but by going to his check ups every so often thats a plus gotta keep one step ahead of it... best of luck!
3 :
There's no replacement for thorough evaluation (exam, CEA blood test, and scans as clinically indicated). But, some good news- the vast majority of colorectal cancers that recur do so within 3 years. So, God bless, best wishes

THEIR ARE MANY CONTRIBUTING FACTORS, SOME OF WHICH WE CAN CONTROL AND SOME WE DONT SEEM TO CONTROL. STRESS!!! CAUSES LOTS OF ILLNESS!! SMOKING CAUSES LOTS OF ILLNESS !!! ANYTHING THAT ACCUMULATES IN THE BODY AND DOESNT MOVE THROUGH CAN BECOME A POTENTIAL RISK . VITAMIN C IS GOOD TO TAKE OR LEMON JUICE WITH TEA, AND PLAIN FOODS RAW CABBAGE, ETC ETC WALK EVERY DAY BRISKLY UP A SLIGHT GRADE FOR MAYBE A TOTAL OF A HALF MILE OR MILE. A LOT OF IT IS COMMON SENSE !!! YOUR EYES WERE PUT ABOVE YOUR MOUTH SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT GOES INTO YOUR MOUTH. SO DONT JUST GOBBLE UP ANY DARN THING. !!!!!

It is a very low blow when cancer comes back after you thought it was over. I am sorry to hear this. However, tell him not to give up hope. There is a man by the name of Wortham. He had stage 4 cancer and went on the 21 day cancer challenge with mangosteen juice and he is still around today to tell us about it. Not only does it work for patients with cancer but will also help with prevention of cancer. Let me know if I can be of more use. Here is some information that you may find useful...
