Did he have all three? Was it prostate or colon? What treatments did he receive?
2 :
They are all staged 1-4 and it is very unlikely he was diagnosed with all 3 at the same time. It is probably stage 4 on one of them.

What's the chance of dying for a colon-cancer-patient

What's the chance of dying for a colon-cancer-patient?
I've recently been told that my father, age 50, has colon cancer, and he is at the second stage which i hope is not severe.

Cancer survival is usually quoted as statistics for surviving 5 years. With treatment (normally surgery at stage II) the survival chance is about 87% - pretty good odds when all said and done.
2 :
we all know that colon cancer is a serious problem..I often say this to my cancer patient friends..they are undergoing a lot of treatments..very expensive and painful and they are asking the same question too.. But i think it depends upon the will of God.medication is for the doctors to do..sometimes they say that medicine only prolong the life of a person. And rather saying the chance of dying..maybe we can change your question.."What's the chance for living for a colon-cancer patient?".As long as the patient has the will to live and undergo treatments i think he will live..and since you said he's only in the stage two there's a great chance for him to survive..Cancer is a battle..even if he's 50 if he also believe that God will miraculously heal Him he will surely live along life.I always remind my friends with this Kind of situation..Trust in God-He is the supreme healer of all.i'll pray for your father and also for your family to give you wisdom and understanding to help your father in his struggle with cancer right now..God bless.

I just had stage 1 cancer and they did surgery and got it got of me. Stage 2 is better then stage 3,4 or 5. Chances are really good for survival. Here is how the staging goes. Stage 0: The cancer is found only in the innermost lining of the colon or rectum. Carcinoma in situ is another name for Stage 0 colorectal cancer. Stage I: The tumor has grown into the inner wall of the colon or rectum. The tumor has not grown through the wall. Stage II: The tumor extends more deeply into or through the wall of the colon or rectum. It may have invaded nearby tissue, but cancer cells have not spread to the lymph nodes. Stage III: The cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes, but not to other parts of the body. Stage IV: The cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such as the liver or lungs. Recurrence: This is cancer that has been treated and has returned after a period of time when the cancer could not be detected. The disease may return in the colon or rectum, or in another part of the body. < Previous Section | Next Section > This is a great website http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/wyntk/colon-and-rectal/page8 you will find alot of needed information, it is the National Cancer Institute, please read it.

What kind of fiber soluble or insolube prevents colon cancer in males

What kind of fiber soluble or insolube prevents colon cancer in males?
i heard fiber one cereal is a great source of fiber... but i am a male i want to know how to prevent colon cancer.. soluble or insoluble fiber? or both.. and what type of foods... all answers helpful!

Any high intake of fiber will prevent Polyps which is where some cancer sells grow. Colon cancer can hit male or female at any age. Better you eat the cereal, broccoli and such the roughage is also important. If colon cancer runs in your family then a colonoscopy is mandatory no matter what your age. Been through it all
2 :
Any fruit or un processed cereals and whole grains. Quaker mutligrain hot cereal is a really good one. You can cook up a big pot of it and refrigerate, then just microwave to eat.
3 :
A male colon is no different than a female colon and there is no way to prevent colon cancer. I have seen professional athletes, vegans and vegetarians with colon cancer and they are often angry over their diagnosis as they believed their excellent diet somehow protected them. The best thing you can do is start screening at 50 years old, or earlier if you have problems or at high risk and sigmoidoscopies at 30 years old if you practice anal sex on a regular basis.

If your under 40 it's EXTREMELY RARE..are you? Also from what I know, dark blood when passing stools, suvire weight loss, abdonimal pain, fatigued. If your not satisfied with your doctor, then keep going untill you are. If he thought you had a chance of this however, he would of wanted to do tests on you ASAP.

How long can you live with colon cancer stage four and luekemia ?
my dad has stage four colon cancer and was diagnosed in mid december. its spread to his liver and lungs and part of his stomach. he also has luekemia. what is the longest he could live with certain treatments?

No one can give you an estimate time on your dad's life. Every individual is different and every persons body reacts differently. In the meantime it would be good for your dad to try and keep his nutrition healthy and he might even try anti-oxidants to help slow down the process of the cancer spreading. Anti- oxidants bind with free radicals and definetly helps to slow down the process. Your dad's condition is serious and advanced. Prepare yourself and accept the fact that he has this disease and ensure spending lots of time with him.Prevention is always better than cure
2 :
I am very sorry to hear that, I know that it is a very difficult situation for everyone involved when dealing with the advanced stages of cancer. I am not an expert by any means, but this link might help.
3 :
It totally depends on if they caught it in time. My dad had colon cancer and it erupted on Dec. 8 1990 and he died in 1991. It really just depends on the circumstances, and how fast they caught it. I will Pray for him.

What trial treatments have had the best results for stage four colon cancer

What trial treatments have had the best results for stage four colon cancer?
My mother was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer 2 years ago. She is now on her last few months and I want to find something, anything that might help her stay for just a little longer. Anything helps! Trials, no gaurantees we are willing to try ANYTHING!

Trial options appear to be limited . . .
2 :
I am very sorry for your family and your mother. My mother died last year of stage 4 ovarian cancer, she had only 9 months between diagnosis and death. I don't know whether any of the "alternative" supplementary treatment we got her did anything, but I know that she went through her chemo without much problems and was in relatively good shape til very late. She took Immune-Assist, a medicinal mushroom mix which I bought from a Hawaiian company (FDA checked for pesticides etc.). It is expensive, and as I said, I don't know whether it helped my mother anything at all, but we just had to try it. By the way, I very thoroughly researched medicinal mushrooms (I am a biologist) and I am convinced that this is one of the best offers, you can be sure that you get what you ordered, no poisons in it, jsut what you paid for. And I do believe in the medical value of medicinal mushrooms, not to cure cancer but to better the quality of life and, perhaps, prolong life a bit. I checked it out very thoroughly on PubMed and other scientific sites, not on quack sites. I hope you and your mother have some more time together. I wish you the best of luck.
3 :
Stage 4 colon cancer has been researched. I was recently involved in a clinical trial using monoclonal antibodies in patient's with stage 4 colon cancer. The drug has now been approved for use and is under the name of ERBITUX. Monoclonal antibodies are becoming the new trend in treating cancers. A great website to find where some colon cancer trials are going on is at http://www.nci.gov--Good luck in your search!

Is liver metastases from colon cancer an automatic death sentence

Is liver metastases from colon cancer an automatic death sentence?
Father has just been diagnosed with colon cancer and it has metastasized to liver. Extremely worried about him. Anyone know someone or is going through anything similar that can give some hope?
Cancer - 8 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I really don't want to answer this. Go to WebMD or just do a Google search to get your answer.
2 :
Your in my prayers. Go to mayoclinic.com and find out every thing you need to know.
3 :
Almost all patients are treated with chemotherapy. Surgery in selected patients to remove the tumor from the Liver. This is indicated when the primary site of the disease is under control and the extent of the disease in the liver is very limited. Response to treatment depends on the patient's overall condition and the type and extent of the underlying cancer.
4 :
It is not necessarily a death sentance, no. Not at all :-) I have a friend who has fought liver cancer that has mets to other parts of her body, and she's alive, well, and cancer-free for 3 years now! The cool thing about the liver is that it has the ability to regrow itself. I don't know how progressed the liver CA is, but, if they caught it in time, they may just take the cancerous part of his liver out, and let that part just grow back healthy. They may also do some radiation therapy to make sure it doesn't come back. Colon cancer, also, is not a death sentence. If you get a good, thourough surgeon, usually they can take out the cancerous part. Again, they may do some radiation or chemotherapy to make sure it doesn't come back. Unless he's had cancer for years and not known it, I wouldn't worry too much about him. It'll be a rough road getting better, but odds are that he will get better.
5 :
The prognosis depends on the number and size of metastases to the liver, the original tumor's status, timing of the diagnosis of the original tumor and the metastatic disease. The range is from curable to incurable. Your father can authorize his doctor(s) to talk with you about his true prognosis to give you a better understanding. If you live near him, have a family appointment with his doctor - if your dad is OK with that. The doctor's duty is to help his patient through this and that often routinely includes helping the people who love him. Best wishes to you and your father.
6 :
Metastasis of colon cancer is never good. It is treatable, but not curable. However, colon cancer can go to the brain, which has a very poor prognosis and shorter life span than that which went to the liver. You or his doctor may want to discuss end of life treatment. Symptomatic treatment (making your dad comfortable), agressive therapy is a very important topic. I am sorry I cannot offer any better news. My prayers are with you.
7 :
Hi! I don't really know a lot about cancer and please don't put all your hopes in it: But isn't there a new drug for intestinal cancer? Sutent? Don't know about the liver though. Sorry. Good luck!
8 :
Honestly, its better you consult a specialist. I really want to help but I don't think I can give better answers than specialist do. Sorry. good luck Love is omnipresence, Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. Yes, we are right with God, very active with our church family. I just wanted to know what others may can tell me that have been thru this before. Know nothing about chemo. He has a large mass in right lobe of liver and several smaller ones in the left lobe.

No two cancer cases are the same, you really need to speak with your Oncologist and get several opinions. Metastasis to the liver means the Cancer has spread to the liver. http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Sites-Types/metastatic http://www.uptodate.com/patients/content/topic.do?topicKey=~uySy4hv7M03My What stage is the Cancer at? If the Metastasis in the liver can be removed, his cancer can be cured or go into remission. And he can live a long healthy live after-wards. However, the cancer doesn't always stay in remission. Has he had Chemotherapy? If so how many rounds and how long was it? My brothers sister-in-law had colon cancer she was diagnosed around fall of 2004 and found it during testing when she had her gallbladder removed, she had her colon removed and was in chemo for 8 months. At the time I thought that was rather short. They declared her cancer free in July of 2006 and told her it was in remission. A few months later she wasn't feeling well and they told her she was fine, she didn't believe her oncologist so she went to the University of Michigan cancer center where she was sent for some of her treatments in the past. They ran various tests on her and found out her cancer never went into remission and had either spread rapidly or she had a new cancer and there was nothing they could do, she died in January of 2007 at 26 with 2 small children. So from the time she was diagnosed until she died was around 2 & 1/2 years. However, as I mentioned no 2 cancer cases are the same. She had a poor outcome I believe because she had poor treatment and/or care, that doesn't mean your husband will or that he will die from colon cancer. Edit: Here is a link to some info on Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Unfortunately at stage 4 it is too widespread usually for surgery to help him usually because there are too many Metastasis or they are too large. http://www.cancer.org/Cancer/ColonandRectumCancer/DetailedGuide/colorectal-cancer-treating-by-stage-colon For advanced cancers, radiation therapy may also be used to help prevent or relieve symptoms such as pain. While it may shrink tumors for a time, it is very unlikely to result in a cure. If your doctor recommends radiation therapy, it is important that you understand the goal of treatment You may want to also check out some cancer support groups, from http://www.cancer.org both for your husband and yourself (and your kids if you have any - even if they are grown). Your friends and family who have not been touched or effected by Cancer will be sympathetc however they wont know what to say or if they should say anything at all to you. The support groups are people with cancer and there are support groups specifically for caregivers/spouses/children of cancer patients and victims. These people willhave similar experiences to you and can likely help you better.
2 :
There are a few drugs available to treat liver cancer. But they come with side effects as the drugs affect the protein, RNA. It is best to discuss with the oncologist. The prognosis, IMHO, does not seem too good. Do you and your husband want to get right with God? God can heal your husband. Jesus is still a healer today. Get in touch with a UPC church. (United Pentecostal) The pastors there can pray for your husband. God wants to give you peace.
3 :
http://coloncancersupport.colonclub.com/viewforum.php?f=1 Please visit this forum; it has many wonderful people on it currently fighting and in remission from colon cancer or colon-rectal cancer. There are Stage IV survivors and fighters that post as well and they are all a very informative group of people.
4 :
I am so sorry your husband is going through this and for you. Chemo for CC iis not easy but he can do it. I will pray for you! Please go to the colonclub.com Here you will find inspiring conversation and stories about stage 4 survivors. If you click on the current and past calendars you will find great info. Good Luck!

My husband says he thinks he has hemorrhoids. They come and go...sometimes they will be around for a couple of days and then they will go away for a couple of months (he takes preparation H to make it better). Here is my question: How do you know when it's really hemorrhoids or colon cancer? Thanks!

By having your health care provider examine you and arrange appropriate testing for you.
2 :
According to others, it's probably hemorrhoids but could be symptoms of colitis, colorectal cancer, and other serious conditions.

What are the different stages of colon cancer

What are the different stages of colon cancer?
My dad had a portion of his colon removed. The doctor said he's 98% sure it's cancer and they're going to see whether it's reached stage 3 or not. Do you think if it's reached stage 4 they would have known already? He's had a CT scan before his surgery...would it have been detected from that??
Cancer - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
He would have known if it was stage 4 from the CT and he would have checked for liver mets during the surgery. So yes from both of these things he would know if it was a stage 4. What is it that you are not understanding?
2 :
YES. If it is stage 3 or 4 cancer he would definetely known about it early. Even in the CT also it will be shown clearly. Anyway, you doctor is the best judge and he will do the needful. I am giving below the details of different stages of Colon cancer just for your information - People who have inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at an increased risk of developing colon cancer. While colon cancer is among the most preventable of cancers, it is often not diagnosed until symptoms become apparent or bothersome. By that time, the colon cancer may be in a more advanced stage. Colorectal cancer has four distinct stages, along with a fifth stage that is called 'recurring'. Each stage has different treatment options and five-year survival rate. Stage 0 This is the earliest stage of colorectal cancer. The cancer only involves the lining, or mucosa, of the colon or rectum and is confined to polyp(s) (tissue bulging from the surface of an organ). When the polyps are removed during a colonoscopy (a procedure known as a polypectomy), the chance of them progressing to later stages of cancer is eliminated. Stage I Stage I colon cancer involves more than just the inner lining of the colon. The polyp has progressed to a tumor, and extends into the wall of the colon or rectum. Treatment can include surgery to remove the section of the colon that is cancerous. This type of surgery is called a resection. The healthy, non-cancerous sections of the colon are reconnected again. The five-year survival rate is 95 percent. Stage II Stage II colorectal cancer is when the cancer has spread beyond the colon to the tissue that surrounds the colon but has not spread to lymph nodes. Cancer spreading in this manner from one part of the body to another is called metastasis. A resection surgery may also be used to treat this stage of cancer. The five-year survival rate drops dramatically to 60 percent. Stage III Cancer that has spread outside the colon and on to the lymph nodes in the area surrounding the colon is known as Stage III. In this stage, the cancer has not spread to other organs in the body, and treatment is more aggressive. Surgical resection of the colon, chemotherapy, and other medical therapies may be necessary. The five-year survival rate is 35 to 60 percent. Stage IV In this stage, the cancer had spread to other organs in the body such as the lungs or liver. In addition to a surgical resection and chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgery to remove other affected parts of the body may be necessary. At this stage, there is only a 3 percent chance of reaching the five-year survival time. Recurrent Cancer Cancer that comes back again after treatment, either in the colon, or in some other part of the body, is called recurrent. Even after successful treatment of colon cancer, regular check ups are necessary to catch any recurrent cancer early. In the early stages, colon cancer is one of the most curable cancers. In the later - it is the second most deadly. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death from cancer in America (lung cancer is the first). Contrary to popular belief, only 15 percent of colon cancer patients must have a permanent colostomy.-

How deadly is stage four colon cancer? What is chance of survival

How deadly is stage four colon cancer? What is chance of survival?
I have a friend who was last week diagnosed with stage four cancer, that started in her colon and spread to her ovaries, liver and parts of her stomach. She is a 23 year old young beautiful girl! How does this happen to such a young person? Cancer really is a silent killer - she had no idea until she collapsed in an airport last week. I would like to know what the survival chances are for stage 4 cancer victims?? =(
Cancer - 13 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It's tragic to learn about your friend. But advanced colon cancer has a nil next to nothing rate of survival. Sorry.
2 :
Stage 4 colon cancer (metastatic) clearly has the worst prognosis. However, not all stage IV cancers are the same. For example, the NCI reports that patients with 3 or less hepatic (liver) metastases have a five-year survival rate of 20 to 30%.
3 :
Unfortunately, when it is detected at later stages (when distant metastases are present) it is less likely to be curable. Distant metastases means it has spread to the liver, stomach etc. Pray for her and her family and be strong for her. I hope that she is right with God, because he will ease her pain. God Bless, and prayers for you all.
4 :
For some reason, cancer seems to be more aggressive in younger people. That is just my observation. But the good news is that hopefully she is otherwise healthy and strong and will be more able to withstand the aggressive surgeries, chemotherapy and/or radiation than older people. I think that laughter and a positive attitude can be the best medicine that you as her friend can give her right now. Be there for her as much as you can - to avoid her can make this ordeal for her more difficult.
5 :
Colon cancer is very deadly, my father passed away 2 years ago and they caught his very early and that still didn't help. Start four is very bad, I'm very sorry to hear about your friend but if a miracle doesn't happen I'm afraid she's doomed. Once it's spread that much there is not much anyone can do except pray. All you can do is be her friend til the end and help her and her family in this time of need because it only gets worse and it progresses. She is very young indeed and something like this had to be very hard to deal with so she is going to need alot of love and support. I think the survival of this stage is less than 20%. Again I'm very sorry, keep your head up and help your friend and just be there for her.
6 :
my husband passed away last year from liver cancer, im sorry but stage four the doctor will tell you is the final stage there is no hope when its 4. call the doctor they will tell you
7 :
I am SO SORRY to hear this my cousin just lost her 40 year old husband to colon cancer, so I know what you can expect he was on chemo for three months then he got so weak that he could not remain on the chemo anymore he became thin since he could not eat certain foods due to the bag ( I forget what it's called, but it holds you waste from food) he then became so skinny that he looked like a skeleton with skin , it was SO sad & I feel bad for my cousin & the two lovely children that are left here w/ out him Just be there for your friend & help her to enjoy what ever time she has left, I hope she has better luck than my cousin's husband did, but even though we don't understand I believe that everything happens for a reason & we are not in control
8 :
I am almost a 6 year survivor if colon cancer, however, I was a stage 2. I had many many prayers said for me. It is up to God who survives. Hand the problem up to him. Expect a Miracle and you will get one. Remember prayer is louder in groups. I will send your friend an Angel to help her through. Without mine. I would not have had the strength to get through the ordeal. There is hope as long as there is breath. Good luck to your friend.
9 :
THAT USUALLY THE WORST,SORRY
10 :
Let her be a hapi girl every day.
11 :
My sister has stage 5 pacreatic cancer which has now spread through her entire body, once it hits your liver and lymph nodes the bile duct begin to get squashed and jaundice sets in, it becomes very aggressive and digestion becomes difficult. I am sorry to hear about your friend but the end result is not good. My sister was diagnosed 7 weeks ago and has about 1 month left statistically speaking.
12 :
I would not give up. There are a combination of remedies your friend can try that seems promising. I would not use the chemo and radiation. That will just depress your friends immune system even more. Your friend needs to do everything they can to strenghten their immune system. Here is a web site that lists what they can do. I would also see a natural or holistic doctor too. http://www.cancer-prevention.net/ Also includ RM-10 medicinal mushrooms by Garden of Life. The developer of RM-10's grandmother had stage 4 cancer and she is now cancer free.
13 :
Go to www.GoXanthones.com and listen to the audio links on cancer by Dr. John Edwards. He has been using mangosteen juice for his cancer patients with good results. To obtain mangosteen juice go to www.mangosteendiscovery.com. You can order right from that site. All natural and tastes great!

Youรข€™re not going to find that information as there is no way to determine when the cancer first occurred making the information inaccurate and not useful. People usually have colon cancer for 5-8 years before they start having symptoms. Survival rates are based on stage.

What is the survival rate of stage 3 colon cancer

What is the survival rate of stage 3 colon cancer?
My friend is a 45 year old male, late stage 3 colon cancer. It is close to the anus and they might have to remove the anus as well. He is in decent physical shape (slightly pudgy), and has started working out. He looks fine right now but he is going to start chemo later today. what should I expect? What will he go through? Will my buddy Al survive? -Mike

I think the chamces are better he will survive an he will go through chemo and you sould expect him healthy after chemo.
2 :
Generally 40 to 50 percent will survive for five years after the cancer is diagnosed. That's not *terrific*, but it's still better than a stage IV cancer which is 10 percent or less. Another good reason to have testing done: the survival rate for a stage 1 cancer is 90 percent and above.
3 :
My bil went through that. He ignored his initial symptoms so they didn't get the cancer as soon as they could have. He ended up having chemo, radiation to shrink the tumor, and then surgery. He got a colostomy (the bag thing). It has been hard for him, but he is still with us 7 years after the diagnosis. The cancer and treatment will take it's toll, but he could survive for a long time after this. I wish him the best of luck.
4 :
Encourage him to keep working out. It will help him get through treatments, it will keep him strong, and help his body fight off the disease.
5 :
His chances are fairly good IF HE FOLLOWS his medical plan. It is so important not to miss treatments and speak to him about a med that will bring up his red cell count, the doctors know what it is. I wish you both alot of success

When should I be tested for colon cancer

Normally they say to start your exams at 45-50 years old. With your background, I think I would ask my doctor and plan for around 40, unless you have any symptoms then I would have it done right away. Ask you family doctor for the best advice based on your family history. ~

Every cancer is a different disease. Therefore there is no connection between your motherรข€™s colon cancer and your sisters breast cancer. Although 50 is young for breast cancer it is not young enough to consider a hereditary component. However, your mother was very young for colon cancer. Without more information it is difficult to know if there may be a hereditary component with this or not. It would be helpful for any doctor if you were able to get her medical records. The recommendation for colon cancer screening is to start at 50 years old. Only knowing what little you have mentioned, to be on the safe side I would say you should be screened at 35 years old. At least it will give a baseline and some idea if your colon appears healthy or not and from there the doctor will know how often you should be screened. Your family doctor is not the best person to advise you on this, you should get a consult from a gastroenterologist.
3 :
We are just dealing with colon cancer this year(my sister)A normal time for first testing is 50 but the cancer-care team at Sunnybrook told her kids that if they remained sympton-free then they would need to start testing at 40.You need to watch your breasts for any abnormalities and then you would also start being tested every year at age 40.Normally docs send u for all those tests at age 50.Good Luck and be very aware about your own body..and see the doc if anything feels not right.
4 :
I was told that cancer is genetically link to our ancestor/family member by doctor BUT nobody can guarantee that you may contract one in your life. As per your writing, it is best to do a regular check up earlier as you are categorise in the high risk group due to your family background. I also suggest that you change your daily diet to include a lot of foods/fruits HIGH in anti-oxidant, such as fruits that are colorful. I m telling you from my own experience as i have 2 uncles who pass away around the age of 50++ and the most recent is my father in law who pass away last month. From all these cases , i do a lot of reading/study on cancer and i hope to advise or help as many people as i can. Need to believe in GOOD KARMA

Is there anyone who has taken Erbitux for colon cancer? What are the side effects

Is there anyone who has taken Erbitux for colon cancer? What are the side effects?
My cousin is taking Erbitux chemotherapy for colon cancer. He is in constant pain. His pain did not begin until he started Erbitux therapy. He has a facial rash now and terrible pain. Can Erbutix cause pain? Your help is greatly appreciated.

I was in a study to see if Erbitux would help in stage 3 to prevent colon cancer from spreading to other organs in the first place. I didn't have pain, but I had rashes on my face and chest. I was told by the oncologist that this is the very most common side effect. In fact they even told both groups (Erbitux group and control group) which group they were in, because the rash was so common they'd figure it out in a heartbeat. I didn't have pain with the Erbitux, but there are 2 good sites to check out to see what other side effects are common. Cancer.gov, the website for the National Cancer Institute, tells anything you want to know about cancer, treatments, and experimental treatments. Another good site is macmillan.org.uk.
2 :
try chemocare.com it has each drug in leimans terms so you can understand it. Rash is normal with that drug unfortunately Usually a good sign that it is working

About how long can the average person live with stage 4 colon cancer

About how long can the average person live with stage 4 colon cancer?
I know someone who just found out they had colon cancer and i know it is a deadly disease i just don't know how deadly.

well if its in stage four that means it is advanced into surrounding tissue or organs. I dont want to give estimates on death tho because every case is different but i will say if this person is close to you then now is the time to make sure they know that you love and care about them and spend as much time with them as u can because it wont be long before they are gone from this world.... my grandpa had stage 4 lung cancer and a week later he died so dont think u have time... cause it may not be the case... sorry to hear this news. take care!
2 :
According to Cancer.org, the 5 year survival rate of Stage IV colon cancer is 8%. I'm sorry... :( http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/content/CRI_2_4_3X_How_is_colon_and_rectum_cancer_staged.asp
3 :
ugh, usually its only about 1-5 yrs. I'm sorry. Best wishes for your friend + their family.
4 :
Noone can accurately predict how long someone has until the true signs of death are approaching. Stage IV means that it has moved beyond the original "site", and even beyond the immediate area. There are different factors that go into how long a person has to survive, the will to fight, diet, treatement (palliative chemo, etc..) I've heard of people that even go into remission from stage IV, it's very rare but it happens. My soon to be mother in law got diagnosed with cervical cancer last year and unfortunately it has spread, and she is now in stage IVb and is now in palliative care at a local health center. But she's fighting and trying to stay positive, and I know she'll be here for our wedding in October. Please visit www.cancer.gov for information, they have alot of resources. I wish the person that you know all the luck in the world, and please stay positive! Edit: I'm sorry, I had forgotten to add that alot of the time, if a doctor deems a patient uncurable, he may reccommend Hospice care. Alot of the time this occurs when it's determined that the patient has six months or less to live.

I am a Stage III colon cancer survivor. I had chemo and radiation. The side effects are not fun, but your family member will be fine. Colon cancer is treatable if it's detected early enough. Sounds like this one is.
2 :
He has a good chance. I just found out I'm in stage 3, and I'm fighting in every way possible. At stage 2 there's still well over an 80% survival rate with proper treatment. I just had a resection less than 2 weeks ago (removed about 8" of my colon) and I'm back to work already. After his, they'll have him in chemo in about 5-6 weeks. Chemo for colon cancer is a little different--it doesn't make your hair fall out, and it just makes you tired for a day or so. And it's a very successful treatment. Most people don't know that there are different types of drugs used in chemo for different types of cancer. Colon cancer is one of the more survivable forms of cancer, as long as you fight.
3 :
If it is true that "all people ive known that undergo for this therapy is nothings happen", then they are indeed the exception; colon cancer is VERY treatable, and depending on what other organs are affected, even at Stage II is far from a "death sentence"... Follow what the oncologist advises, and in 99% of cases, all will be well...
4 :
Chemo, Radiation, and Surgery are all options. Most often patients are treated with a combination of those treatments and sometimes other treatments as well.
5 :
Stage 2 cancer means that no metastasis have been found. Sometimes there are features in the cancer that are associated with increased risk of subsequent development of metastasis. That would be things like for instance infiltration of blood vessels. The purpose of chemotherapy in that situation is to destroy those few cancer cells that might have gotten into the bloodstream. In other words - chemotherapy is given as part of the cure. It is not a palliative treatment. It increases the prognosis from good to even better.
6 :
Mark I feel sorry for you. If you only knew who prayer helped. Please don't dismiss it until you've tired it. Prayers work wonders. If it wasn't for prayers, my sister would not be here today. What's the harm in trying both. Chemo and prayer. and I don't care in the least how many thumbs down I get because nothing will sway me either way.

Vitamin B17. Big pharma and even the FDA (because the FDA is infested with people who also work for big pharma companies!) won't admit that this simple vitamin that you can get frm food, yes from food is the best available cancer prevention and cure - the reason tehy wont back this is because they cant patent and then SELL and profit from somthing that naturaly occurs in nature Here is some good info on Cancer that is not mainstream because it doesnt generate profits for big pharma! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rook-MzIAรข€¦ http://www.worldwithoutcancer.org.uk/ (the story of vitamin B17)
8 :
There is no 'cure' for cancer . . but there is treatment and the treatment can lead to an individual 'cure'. In this case chemotherapy is being used to stop and kill any microscopic cancer cells left in the body. Surgery can remove visible or large tumors . . and radiation is good for only one area usually the tumor bed . . but chemotherapy can enter the blood stream and follow the same paths that any metastatic cancer cells may have followed . . in other words it can target any cancer in any location that remains in the body after surgery. That is the purpose of chemo .. to seek out and destroy any and all remaining malignant cells . . cells that a CT or PET or the eye could never see or find . . the hiding cancer cells or the microscopic ones. It is given to stop any new cancer colonies from starting up again. Unfortunately, there is no guarantees that the dosage of chemo given or the type given will stop the cancer . . in some cases the cancer mutates again and builds a resistance to chemo . . which than needs to be changed. So it is not chemo to fear . . it is cancer.

Is there any natural cure for colon cancer

Is there any natural cure for colon cancer?
My Mother has has colon cancer for about 3 years now & the chemotherapy was never helping her. About a month ago I found out that the cancer has spread in the lungs and breasts, she also has Internal bleeding. I hear that there are natural cures that the doctors do not speak of, but I really need help because she is dying. My question is, do anyone know of any natural medicines for cancer that could help my Mother?

I know of a natural product that is listed in the Physicians Desk Reference as "anti-tumor" with "no adverse side effects". I can't say that it cures cancer, But, if I were diagnosed, this is the recipe I would follow: 1 Bottle of Tahitian Noni Juice per day for 4 days. 1/2 Bottle of Tahitian Noni Juice per day for 4 days. Then 4-6oz per day for 1 year. Worst Case Scenario? It would make her feel better through DR's treatment.
2 :
i never heard of a sure thing. I know a lot of people swear by kombucha tea that you can buy at the health food stores. It's always worth a try. I hope all the best. Prayers never fail to guide us!
3 :
JUST PRAY TO GOD.
4 :
About the best chance she might have is becoming part of a clinical trial for a new treatment. You should ask her oncologist if there are any in which she might participate. There could be a medicine that could help her ... but even if not, she could be helping future generations fight the disease by helping bring tomorrow's treatments to market.
5 :
You may not want to hear this, but honestly if she has colon, lung, and breast cancer AND internal bleeding- she is going to die, and VERY soon. Spend time with and enjoy the time you have. There will be no miracles, I am sorry. Lost my grandfather to cancer a couple months ago.
6 :
FLAX oil is a very researched product that can help to aid cancer patients. you can research more if you want.there are a lot of books about it.very natural too. you can buy from this site: http://www.iherb.com/Search.aspx?c=1&kw=flax%20oil you can get $5 off your first order from the website, shipping is very low starting at $1.98 for orders less than $80, and free shipping more than that. just use coupon code : FAR177. the code is guaranteed to work 100%. you can check other products at www.iHerb.com, they have the lowest price on the web.
7 :
go to cancertutor.com, do some serious research, also your mother should consult a colon hydrotherapist, and have colonics. Read 'Cancer is a Fungus' by Dr. Simoncini, also consider Gerson Therapy.
8 :
Unfortunately, chemotherapy doesn't always cure it, and a "cure" is dependent on how quickly it is diagnosed. Since it has metastasized to other critical areas, I would say her chances of survival are minimal, and you probably don't have much time left. Spend time with her now, and maintain her comfort. When people say that there are "natural cures that the doctors do not speak of", they are lying, and trying to sell you something like a book or an actual product. Typically its a book, because even though its a lie, it is protected by free speech. Whereas, if someone was selling an actual remedy and saying that it cures cancer, they would be sued for making false and dangerous medical claims. I can't think of any reason that a doctor would want to suppress information about a cure for anything. If there as a cure, what would prevent a company from selling it and making billions of dollars? Keep in mind that many drugs started out as "natural" ingredients found in plants. Then researchers isolate the chemical, purify it, study the effect it has in the body, and determine a safe and effective range of doses. So the notion that companies can't sell something that's natural is simply wrong. Bottom line, I understand your desire to find the mythical hidden cure, but it doesn't exist. Treatments are getting more promising, but they are all dependent on how much the cancer has progressed. There will likely never be a "cure" for cancer, unless you mean early diagnosis and treatment by genetic means to prevent the cancer gene from activating in the first place. But in your mom's case, there isn't much that can be done. I'm sorry to tell yout this, and I empathize with your situation.

What is the survival rate for Colon Cancer

What is the survival rate for Colon Cancer?
My aunt was recently diagnosed with Colon Cancer. I really don't know too much about it. What is the survival rate? Is it usually treatable as far as cancer goes? I welcome any comments from surivors or people with relatives with cancer or anyone really. Thanks in advance.

Pretty good! My gran had 2 meters of intestine taken out due to colon cancer 10yrs ago. She's 84 now and still going strong. So keep your chin up, it is survivable.
2 :
If the tumor is confined to the colon, it's actually very easy to deal with nowadays. A surgeon can simply remove the affected length of colon (it's just a big tube) and sew the ends together, and your aunt will be good as new! (almost). The prognosis is not so good if it has spread to other places, but cancer has become much more of a treatable disease in the last few years. My best wishes to your aunt. I hope she doesn't smoke, and is improving her diet.

Do you think they have came a long way with cure for colon cancer

Do you think they have came a long way with cure for colon cancer?
I was just wondering if anyone thinks they will have cures for colon cancer soon, i heard they can now tell by simple bloodtest if you have it or not.

As they learn more an more about the molecular biology of colon cancer they undoubtedly will have more and more effective treatments. But the most important thing will always be to detect it as early as possible, because surgery in that case will be the only treatment needed.
2 :
We have a cure for about 90% of all colon cancers now itรข€™s colonoscopy. About 40% of the colon cancers I see are cured on colonoscopy. No surgery, no chemo, no radiation, nothing else. It cannot be diagnosed by a blood test.
3 :
1] cures run far behind detection rates - since cures are far more involved!! 2] colon cancer still #2 for cancer death rates, #3 for incidence 3] not by a bloodtest, no.

What are some symptoms of colon cancer

What are some symptoms of colon cancer?
i think my husband might have colon cancer. he complains that he feels like he has go to the bathroom but doesnt need to, throws up every night, tired/weak, stomach hurts alot and little blood in toilet. could that be what it is or something else?

1. You're pooping more or less often. The presence of a tumor in your bowel throws things off. As your body tries to adjust to its presence, demands, and byproducts, you may experience changes in your bathroom habits. For example, let's say a tumor is slowly growing in your colon, inhibiting the flow of solid waste. You may or may not notice that you're defecating less often. But if the tumor gets large enough, it may become very difficult for your poop to get by it and you'll end up constipated. Sound like a crap shoot? (No pun intended.) The tumor may obstruct your bowel. You may notice a difference. You may get constipated. That's why, in general, it's best to get regular screenings rather than rely on symptoms to alert you to the presence of the cancer. 2. Your stool is thinner than usual. Imagine a three-lane tunnel full of cars, all driving through with a nice, steady flow. Now imagine that two big rigs decide to block the left lanes in tandem... then they slow to a stop. Both of them. Blocking both left lanes. What do the cars do? They start filing to the right so they can get around the obstruction. The same sort of thing happens in the bowel. Everything is flowing fine and dandy until a tumor starts to grow, causing an obstruction. As the obstruction gets bigger, the space around it gets smaller. So, as you might expect, tumors toward the "tunnel exit" tend to cause this effect of narrowed stool. 3. You have stomach cramping or bloating. Bloating may be the result of a bowel obstruction. Cramping may be caused by constipation or diarrhea. In more advanced stages of colorectal cancer, severe abdominal cramping may be caused by the tumor perforating (poking through) the bowel wall. 4. There's bright red blood in or on your poop. Tumors tend to bleed. Not a whole lot and not constantly, but they do bleed. As a result, some of that blood may be found in your stool. If the tumor is in the right colon, the blood will most likely be dried and virtually invisible by the time the poop leaves the body. However, if the tumor is in the rectum or toward the end of the left colon, it may still be fresh and therefore, bright red. 5. You've experienced unexplained weight loss. Many of us wouldn't want to question unexplained weight loss. We'd just be happy to be losing weight! But, even though the prospect of losing weight without even trying may seem a blessing, it really is something to question. It's the old "if it sounds too good to be true..." idea. See more at http://coloncancer.about.com/cs/thebasics/a/Top10CCSymptoms.htm

Tell him to go to the doctor.
6 :
Why has he not gone to see a doctor about this already?
7 :
I wouldn't worry about it until he finds out from a doctor for sure. I actually thought i had that once, but there are so many things that people can think they have because they are too freaked out to think rationally. It could be that he has the flu, maybe he has hemmroids, maybe something else. Good luck to you.. and you might need to have him see a doctor.
8 :

It could be many things...divurticulitis, crohn's disease, irritable bowel syndrome...and, unfortunately, colon cancer. He needs to get to the doctor asap and have it checked out. If it's one of the more minor issues, then you'll have peace of mind and he can get some relief through treatment. If it's cancer, the sooner they find it and begin treatment the better chance he has for a complete recovery.
10 :
Honey..please don't mess around this place looking for an answer for this concern..get him to a doctor immediately. What he has could be symptons for anything...don't waste time.

Only a good doctor knows best - but you may find the info on the following page helpful. I hope he is ok!! :) Rj
12 :
Make a Dr appointment ...The symptoms of colon cancer vary from person to person, depending on how extensive the cancer has spread. You husband does have some symptoms..Instead of worrying please make an appointment and find out for sure..I do know that trouble passing stools is a sign of colon cancer but it can also be an indicator of many other health related issues
13 :
Colon cancer may be present without symptoms, particularly early in its course. The passage of bright red blood in the stool or a change in the frequency, consistency or thickness of stool are the most typical symptoms. Please refer to the following:
14 :
I have suffered for years with Crohn's disease which offers many of the same symptoms you are describing plus most often also causes the right eye to be very bloodshot on the inside corner. Ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, even appendicitis are some of the other conditions that have these symptoms. I recommend strongly that you encourage your husband to make an appointment tomorrow with a gastroenterologist who may end up doing a few tests and sending him to a rheumatologist. My symptoms are somewhat controlled now after 12 years but I still suffer. If he has fever, take him tonight to the emergency clinic just to make sure nothing is going to rupture as this is the most worry with some of the above conditions. There is now a digestive pill camera that can be swallowed to scan the digestive tract and find out what is going on. Maybe if he knows this he will feel more comfortable about testing that may need to be performed.
15 :
What ever it is, he needs to have medical attention ASAP! The symptoms you describe are seen in colon cancer but it could be something else. Copy this address and check it out. BUT...see a doctor soon; waiting makes treatment more difficult and reduces success. It's better to know the truth and treat it than to worry about what it might be. chttp://health.yahoo.com/ency/healthwise/hw198266/zp2644;_ylt=AvRDn6ghIpBi0bNuPmImvL1Hg7MFancer

I can tell you this my boyfriend who at age 27 started noticing a little bit of blood in his stool, he didn't think much of it. As time went on, there was more and more blood in his stool. He finally went to the doctor and was diagnosed with colon cancer. He passed away in 2001 at age 32. Cancer is hereditary, his mother had it, his grandfather had it, and so did he. Have him go to the doctor, it's better to be safe then sorry. If my boyfriend would've went right when he started noticing blood in his stool, he would most likely be alive today.

Can anyone tell me what the prognosis is for someone who has stage II colon cancer

Can anyone tell me what the prognosis is for someone who has stage II colon cancer?
I'm sorry that I can't phrase that a little bit less harsh, but I have recently found out someone that I know has stage II colon cancer. He has had surgery and is in round 2 of a six month chemo treatment. Will my friend survive? For how long?
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

87% according to this
2 :
Long term outcomes vary tremendously from patient to patient. In addition to the stage at which cancer is caught, all of the following also drive outcome: * Growth rate of cancer (aggressiveness) * Patient's responsiveness to treatment * Patient's overall health, including conditions that may complicate cancer treatment Your friend will likely be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. According to the Merck Manual, "The 10รข€‘yr survival rate for cancer limited to the mucosa approaches 90%; with extension through the bowel wall, 70 to 80%" Therefore, the long term outlook is fairly good, but clearly not risk free.
3 :
Hello C.B.: I am sorry your friend has cancer. But they found it early enough to treat it and have a full recovery. They already did the first step the surgery. And you said they already started the chemotherapy that is step two. While doing chemo your friend will need to laugh as much as possible. That is your job to help fight depression. Chemo is not easy but depression makes it worse. So Laugh every day. If the oncologist feels radiation is needed your friend will need to laugh just as much. And listen to there complaints about how bad they feel than get them laughing it will make them feel better. I recommend a joke book or on line jokes. A few of the people in the bc support group I e mail frequently jokes. I want them to make it. and Laughter fights depression better than medication. By being a good friend and listening and laughing together this is the best thing you can do for a friend.
4 :
Most cancers are measured in survival 5-year survival rates. This is the percentage of people alive 5 years after being diagnosed with the same kind and stage of cancer. Stage 2A colon cancers have a 5-year survival rate of 80% and 2B has a 75% survival rate. Long term survival depends on how well they respond to treatment. If is not uncommon for some cancers such as breast cancer or melanoma to recur 10-15 years later. This is not the case with colon cancers when they recur it is usually within 2-4 years.
5 :
he chance of survival or surviving for an extended number of years when one has colon cancer (also known as colorectal cancer) is generally good if the condition is detected early. Some people however who are already in higher cancer stages may actually still have some reason to be hopeful. The right treatment is really the key to a good colon cancer prognosis. Stages Colon cancer prognosis is often dependent on the stage in which the patient is in. Untreated and advanced cancer may lead to only a 20% chance of surviving for five years after diagnosis. Some however may actually have a 90% chance of surviving after diagnosis if the cancer is treated early. This is only quite natural. The worse one's condition and spread of cancer cells are, the least likely will treatment be effective and encompassing. Given below are the different stages of colon cancer and possible survival chances. Stage 0 Others also know this stage as the initial stage. At this point, the cancer cells may restrict themselves to the rectum lining. Some cells may also already be found in the first part lining of the colon. One of the most common ways to treat this stage is through a surgical method. Some patients may actually need no other treatment than surgery. People who are at this stage have the highest rate of survival. Stage 1 At this stage, the cancer cells may already be found deeper in the colon. There is however no movement or metastasis to other external tissues and organs. The cancer cells are therefore still restricted within the colon. Those who are at this stage may have to undergo a procedure known as resection. They may not yet be required to undergo other supplementary cancer treatments and procedures. Survival rate is still good at this stage. Stage 2 Stage 2 is when other tissues other than those found in the colon are affected. This may already be some sort of a close call for some patients because of the movement of cancer cells. There is still great reason to be hopeful though since the cells have not yet moved into the lymph system which is a crucial system through which cancer cells metastasize. Surgery may still be a preferred mode of treatment. Depending on the patient's condition and risk factor as determined by a specialist doctor, other common cancer treatments may be employed simultaneously. These involve radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Stage 3 This is already considered an advanced stage since the lymphatic system is already affected by cancer cells. All three common cancer treatment options may be used to fight the spread of the cells. Patients at this stage have a lower colon cancer prognosis than those in stages 1 and 2. Stage 4 This is the final and most severe stage. The condition can no longer be removed completely despite treatment. Cancerous cells may have already spread through the lymphatic system to other organs in the body such as the lungs and liver. Of course, treatment will still be employed but patients may only have a survival rate of around 20%. The stage that the cancer has reached will ultimately have an influence on any colon cancer prognosis. Since the cancer can be arrested at its early stages, it is important to seek to prevent the condition. Those who are at risk of colon cancer and those who are 50 years old and above should always have scheduled screenings.

How colon cancer cause a homeostatic imbalance in the body

How colon cancer cause a homeostatic imbalance in the body?
Please be specific. I have been looking on the internet for hours and i still cannot find a good reason why exactly what causes a homeostatic imbalance in colon cancer. Please help me!!!!
Cancer - 2 Answers

1 :
do you even understand what homeostasis is? if you did, you might have a better chance of understanding how homeostasis is changed by any cancer. in colon cancer, the tissues become unstable and no longer do the job they are intended to do, so the body cannot adequately feed or hydrate itself, homeostasis goes out of balance. the tissues also become friable and weak, tend to bleed a lot, blood loss is a homeostatic imbalance also. to understand what is happening you first have to educate yourself as to what the terminology you are using means.
2 :
Colon cancer is a tumor that is a parasite and toxin to the host and it has the capacity to kill the host. I had surgery 4 weeks ago for a cancerous tumor in my colon and my body was sick. Reasons I would say were the tumor was bleeding so I was losing blood which resulted in low iron and anemia. The tumor also released chemicals into my system that increased my metabolism so I was losing weight without trying. The tumor was taking nutrients away from my body so I was losing nutrition. It was also getting bigger and almost blocking the passage of food along my colon. I am doing better now and I am so glad that it was found and taken out of my body. I hope my first-hand experience and knowledge I have now gained from it and from reading up and learning more about the condition that affected my body helps you.
