http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/CRI_2x.asp?sitearea=LRN&dt=10 Hopefully this link will answer a few questions for you. Wait until your mom and dad come home to tell your little brother so you can sit down and discuss it as a family. Hope all turns out well.
2 :
I'd wait til your parents get home. Your colon is part of your intestines, pretty far down in your digestive system. Colon cancer can be bad, but if it's found early and you get treatments such as surgery and special medication (chemotherapy), many people have lived for years after they found out they had it. It's possible to die from it, but really the doctor can give you a better idea about that in her case. It depends on how bad a case you have and how healthy you are otherwise. Cancer, of course, is when cells in part of your body start growing too fast and make a lump that shouldn't be there and is harmful to that part of the body. Keep praying. Remember that you can't catch cancer by being around someone who has it, so be sure to still love and hug your grandma and stay hopeful and pray. She might be able to make a good recovery! Good luck, and I'll pray, too.

God doesn't exist get off the computer child
4 :
Honey, let your mom tell him. Some people take this kind of news harder than others and you can't really answer his questions. Your colon is your intestines. Colon cancer is curable, but there is no guarantee. Lots of praying is the best thing you can do for her. My prayers are with all of you too.
5 :
Okay, Colon cancer is cancer of the colon which is part of your bowels. (Where food travels through and comes out of your butt.) It depends on the stage of the cancer as to wether or not it can be treated. You should let your mom tell your little brother about it. I am so sorry to hear about this horrible time in your families life. My grandmother was diagnosed with liver cancer about a month ago. Her is end stage, meaning there is nothing they can do to help her. God Bless
6 :
Try to wait for your parents to come home so that they can talk to your brother. Colon cancer is serious, but it depends on how advanced it is and on the person who has it. A colon is part of the intestines. I was pleased to read that you prayed. Keep praying and trust in God to do what is right. God bless you and your family.
7 :
just wait and let your parents tell him. colon cancer is a curable cancer. with surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy your grandma may be able to live. it will depend on how advanced the cancer is. sometimes they might also remove the colon and attach a little bag outside of her tummy called a colostomy. this bag will collect poop so she won't need her colon. your grandma will have to see a special cancer doctor called an oncologists. they will do lots of tests to find out what stage the cancer is in and the best way to treat it. i'll say a prayer for you and your family...
8 :
you need to let your parents tell your brother. Your colon is connected to your bowels (it holds your poop) alot of people get it my grandfather has it.You can live a long time with treatment. Just keep praying for your grandma and be there for her she will like that.
9 :
In the first place you can't be 7 years old. Colon cancer is inheritable. Go see the doctor to see if you don't have it too. All living beings have a life-cycle. Let your grandma complete the cycle so that you can live.
10 :
In anatomy of the digestive system, the colon (> Greek κῶλον) is the part of the intestine from the caecum to the rectum. Its primary purpose is to extract water from feces. In mammals, it consists of the ascending colon, transverse colon, the descending colon, the sigmoid colon, and the rectum. The colon from cecum to the mid transverse colon is also known as the right colon. The remainder is known as the left colon. To be less technical, the colon is the part of your body that stores poo until it is ready to be released. It is a little gross but we all have one. Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the third most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of death among cancers in the Western world. Many colorectal cancers are thought to arise from adenomatous polyps in the colon. These mushroom-like growths are usually benign, but some may develop into cancer over time. The majority of the time, the diagnosis of localized colon cancer is through colonoscopy. Therapy is usually through surgery, which in many cases is followed by chemotherapy. Colon cancer is little growths that have developed on her colon. I'm not going to lie to you, cancer is never a good thing, but there are many treatments available these days. They will probably do surgery on her colon and try to remove these mushroom things. It is okay to be sad, but your grandmother also needs your support. You should do what you can to show her that you care about her, perhaps you can make her a card or something. Also I think you should leave telling your brother up to your parents.
11 :
I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother, sweetheart. You've gotten a lot of good answers and advice, and I agree that you should wait for your parents to come home to tell your little brother about what's going on. Because you don't understand it that well yourself, and of course not understanding causes even more concern, you don't want to pass concern that is possibly not as bad as you think it is on to your brother. I think you should sit down and have a really serious talk with your parents. Let them know how much this is upsetting you, and that it's important for you to know the truth so you can prepare for your grandmom's death IF that's what's going to happen. And if they've caught the cancer in its early stages, there's a good possibility the doctors can help her to live longer. And if that's the case, you need to know that there's hope. There were two people who answered who are sicker than your grandmother!!! One said there was "no God so get off the computer" and the other one (Just enquiring is his name) should be taken out and shot! We all have cancer cells in our body, but doctors don't know what causes the cell to be activated. Please don't worry that you and your brother are going to come down with this too. Both my mother and father died from cancer...I'm 68 and I don't have it. God bless you and comfort you.
12 :
I feel so sad for you right now.It sometimes is very hard to understand why people we care about have to be sick and we feel helpless because we cannot do anything to make them better.I'm sure your Grandma has a good doctor and He knows what needs to be done to make her well again.Just remember that it is in God's hands,so keep praying.I'll keep you in my prayers.Good luck and God Bless you my friend.About your brother,I would let your mom and dad break the news to him.It will be alot easier on him that way.Bye,Bye
13 :
my prayers r w/ you
14 :
i am so sorry about hearing about your grandma. i would let your parents talk to him. if you have questions i would definitly talk to your parents as well.
15 :
When caught at an early stage, it is highly treatable. - She should have good chances to heal. Get information from the Dr, and educated yourself as much as possible to understand her condition. You will feel more hopeful. Also, find someone to talk to about this. Ask your parents if they can find somebody who can answer your questions. Good luck, and pray. Give your grandmother allot of love and encouragement.
16 :
Please, Please, talk with your parents when they get home. No one here should tell you anything. Im sorry to hear your grandma is ill. Hopefully they can help her. Stay positive. Help your mom and dad stay positive.

wow. wish i were the expert here; but this is what i found out. mayo should know. it seems that if she is in relatively good health, prognosis is better for beating the cancer. if she can get treatment (pay for or has insurance- medicare?) she probably can live a normal life. of course a POSITIVE attitude, wanting to be cured, and the will to live seems to help defeat any disease. for descendants, i read just today that tea, especially green (unprocessed) tea, normal tea, and COFFEE!, the beverage often linked or attempted to be linked to unhealthy life, are STRONG anti-colon cancer drinks. the more coffee drunk, the higher the resistance. since i am a coffee lover, i have researched it in the past and read an italian study supporting strong coffee consumption UP TO four cups a day. you and your family may consider. i hope the mayo site gives you guidance and answers. pray for your relative and tell her to also. does she already know about the cancer? how was her reaction? if she fights it and wants to fight it, that will augment the treatment ordered by the doctors. truly, best wishes:)

It depends on what type of treatment she decides to take. These articles may help. She will have to do a little research on this. Good Luck. http://cancertutor.com/ http://www.naturalnews.com/025974_cancer_health_colon_cancer.html

Is this true about COLON CANCER

Is this true about COLON CANCER?
Just came across this story about this mother, and read the part about her having "bowel cancer" for years and not knowing. I've heard that some people can have this type of cancer for some time before it's diagnosed but for such a long time as years?!!! Is this the norm?

Unfortunately yes, Especially colon cancer that one can be happening for a long time. This is why you need to get a colonscopy every 10 years.
2 :
My mothers Oncologist believes she had it for about 10 years before she was diagnosed last spring. All that time she thought she had an irritable bowel.
3 :
yes. My dad went in for a colonoscopy at 54, b/c his doctor said it would be a good idea. He didn't have any symptoms, but he did have colon cancer and is currently undergoing chemo. Scary stuff.
4 :
Yes this is what happened to my brother in law and it wasn't until he went to the toilet one morning and discovered alot of blood. He had it for quite some time and even had some of his liver cut away, as bowel cancer and liver cancer go hand in hand. He didn't take the radiation and chemo treatment and took on the diet, breathing and meditation way of things only to find it has spread now throughout his body.
5 :
it's that way with many cancers, including colon cancer. symptoms don't usually show up until the disease has progressed. this is why the medical profession has been urging folks to have regular exams and such.
6 :
Colon cancer usually starts in a polyp and spreads slowly, so yes this often takes years. Colon cancer and liver cancer do not go hand in hand.
7 :
This is true. This is why previous ads for the American Cancer society would say '" fight cancer with a checkup and a check."

I have stage four metastatic colon cancer. What are the best foods for me to eat

I have stage four metastatic colon cancer. What are the best foods for me to eat ?

plain chicken. mashed potatoes. no dairy! i MEAN it NO DAIRY! good luck!
2 :
First off, sorry to hear that you have cancer. Second, I would assume that anything with alot of fiber (fruits and veggies) would be best for your digestive system since the fiber helps food to pass through easier. Also, chicken and fish are probably ok if they don't make you sick. Try to stay away from sugary foods, red meat, and "enriched" white food.
3 :
You need to go back to your doctor/hospital and ask to see a dietitian. I wouldn't get medical advice from unqualified people on the web.
4 :
The best foods are the ones you can tolerate, taste good and give you pleasure. Food is not going to change anything as far as your cancer goes.
5 :
You should seek advice from your oncologist.GOOD LUCK
6 :
We know that the simplest and the nutritious food we have to eat is the vegetables and fruits because they are rich in fiber and that was easily be digested. Colon Cancer patients I think should eat also that kind of foods that was ordered by a dietitian. Maybe this order from a doctor will do, 70% fruits and vegetables, 10% of animal protein, 10% grain and cereals, and a small amount of dairy products. Avoid carcinogenics like smoked foods it may only trigger the cancer.

8 :
I had a quick read on the web about stage 4 cancer and it says to stay off fatty foods and dairy products but then if you are having chemo I wouldn't eat too many veg, fruit or fibre as it might be too much for your bowels. by stage 4 I would have thought you would be in hospital on an IV drip? my dad was on morphine by the time he was at stage 4, I think he was at stage 4 when diagnosed as he only lived 6 weeks but he was 76 years old. God Bless You.
9 :
If you are at a stage 4, it doesn't matter what you eat. That's the last stage there is. However, I do suggest you stay away from a lot of sugar. I don't know about colon cancer, but breast cancer cells love sugar. it breaks down into glucose, and that's what they thrive on. Get information online about your cancer, and ask your doctor what the best diet would be for you. WE are just a bunch of Yahoo-ers online.
10 :
Your doctor should tell you what foods you should avoid. Other then that, eat anything you want. There is no diet that is going to cure you if that is what you are thinking. Good luck.

Screening for colon cancer

Screening for colon cancer?
I am 26 years old and my mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. My uncle (her younger brother) died from colon cancer less than a year ago. I can't help but feel like I have a big colon cancer target on my back now. I'm debating on whether I need to physically go see my family doctor with my concerns. I have tried to call his office for advice, but no one has ever returned my message. I'm sure because I sound ludicrous wanting to discuss colon cancer at 26. Can anyone help?

1 :
Ask your doctor for an examination and tests - he/she will understand your concern. This would put your mind at rest.
2 :
You should see your primary care doctor and see when you should get your first colonoscopy since you've had family history. You may not need to get one right away but may need to start having it sooner than other people without any family history. It's a good thing you're on top of it, everything will be ok.
3 :
You should be putting your energies towards your Mom instead of yourself. You're young, quit worrying about it. Your Dr. will advise you whether or not you should be tested but the odds of you having it at your age are minimal.
4 :
This is too big an issue to discuss over the phone . My wife and father had colon cancer. A few years ago, we went to a seminar on colon cancer. the speaker was a surgeon who specializes in colon cancer, and also had colon cancer. Someone asked him , what was the youngest person he saw who had colon cancer. the reply " age 19." May I suggest this? Is there a large hospital near you? Call them, and ask if they have any presentations on colon cancer scheduled for the near future? If so, I suggest you go to one. You might also call your local chapter of the American cancer society. Ours has an RN who is moderator of the monthly survivors meeting.. If your mother is presently in the hospital, or soon will be, try to talk to her surgeon about your concerns. Would you rather feel ludicrous , or DO something. Remember, colon cancer often has no symptoms. This surgeon and his partner took care of my wife. When my wife told him my father had colon cancer, he busted my tail to get a colonoscope. I did, and he found several pre cancerous polyps.

Colon cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the colon. The colon is part of the body’s digestive system. The digestive system removes and processes nutrients (vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and water) from foods and helps pass waste material out of the body. The digestive system is made up of the esophagus, stomach, and the small and large intestines. The first 6 feet of the large intestine are called the large bowel or colon. The last 6 inches are the rectum and the anal canal. The anal canal ends at the anus (the opening of the large intestine to the outside of the body). http://www.cancer.gov/cancerinfo/pdq/treatment/colon/patient/

Well of course no form of cancer is good. But colon cancer is treatable if caught early enough. Just ask her what stage is he at, what's going to happen, and tell her you're there for her whenever she needs you. Perhaps even wait with her at the hospital whilst he's having surgery. When I had surgery for colon cancer, my friends waited, but something else that meant a lot is that my brother's friends came out of their classes at uni to wait. I know they were there to support him, but it also meant a lot to me. Even my brother's friend's family came to visit me. They didn't talk about it with me, apart from ask how I'm doing, but they showed support by just being there. Good luck!!

I'm 35 and i found out I have colon cancer... Now I need a bag

I'm 35 and i found out I have colon cancer... Now I need a bag.?
I found out this past Friday I have colon cancer and will require surgery on the 13th. I'm a 35 year old male PE teacher. How much will using a bag change my life. I'm active and enjoy trips to Las Vegas. I'm stressed about using and living with a bag. Is there any advice out there on how to adjust to this change? Thanks

1 :
stoma bags are not as bad as they seem, a stoma is relatively easy to take care of, it shouldn't stop you being the active person you are now. stoma bags go un noticed unless you tell someone or you show them many people will not know you have one. you will be able to shower and bath with the bag in place and there is usually no smell. sometimes a bag can leak if it has not been applied properly, you will know almost instantly that this has happened and will have chance to clear it up. It is a good idea to carry a spare bag around with you just in case you ever need one. There are many different kinds of stoma bags and they will pick one that suits your lifestyle. yes this is a change but not one you cant adapt to. if you have any questions at all talk to your consultant or nurse, they will give you all the info and support you need never be afraid to ask that's what they are there for.
2 :
Colostomies can often be reversed so the FIRST question I would ask my Gastroenterologist or ColoRectal Surgeon is WHY are you having the ostomy and CAN it be reversed. My husband had acute prolapse of the sigmoid and perforated diverticulitis. This is serious as the perforations allow harmful toxins to enter your bloodstream. He underwent an ostomy and had a stoma for six months. He was able to have the site reversed and now he is fine. Please check and get a second, third and maybe fourth opinion before you have an ostomy that is irreversible. Good luck to you.

Colon cancer takes quite some time to develop. Did you not notice anything until it had to come to an emergency operation? I regress cancer or any abnormal cell growth all the time using a VERY powerful scalar machine and remote means. You would hardly understand even if I would try to explain. The gist of it is that I (the machine)..... besides automatically doing Many many other things - resets the human DNA to the time of conception. Since cancers were not present then, the physical body has no other choice but to follow the original blueprint of health. In other words - any abnormal cell growth in the body is instantly reversed and disappears within about two month - no matter how serious. I have to say here that that refers to a "window of opportunity" as I term it. Anything that is within a "window of opportunity" can be fixed in good time. Illness, disease is a direct function of the health of the DNA. The more it is corrupted, the better the chance of the cells and/or organs in the body following the downward path of health. All I need to do healing is a good photo of the person and/or the original signature on a piece of paper. Those are the targets for the machine to focus healing energy on. I don't even need to see the person. If you want, you are welcome to email me.
