im being tested for it right now. I am a 15 year brain tumor survivor though. (seriously)
2 :
2 years, but mine wasn't as bad. just carcinoid tumor in the appendix. immediate surgery got rid of it, but i still have to do check ups. anything is could happen, but hopefully new cures or treatments will improve.
3 :
6 years and still going, and I had 2 rounds of chemo and 2 resection surgeries. There is lots of hope! But, if your oncologist is not doing it for you, I have two words for that...SECOND OPINION! I switched doctors and I believe that is why I am still here. As a side note, since it runs in the family be sure to get yearly colonoscopies.
4 :
3 year survivor of colon and rectal. Had suspension, reconstructive and dissection.
5 :
the rate is getting better. the use of PET/CT scanning for colon cancer taking the place of CT scans is drastically improving survivability.
6 :
My grandma was diagnosed with colon cancer about 22 years ago-she is alive and well now, and has remained cancer free. My prayers go out to you and your family.
7 :
Visit my website www. zeolitesfordetox. com/ davidlawrence Read the testimonials and news target Email for more info davrlaw@yahoo. com Hope this helps
8 :
My grandfather had it, its been 18 years since. I just did a paper on it. If caught and treated early there is a 100% chance you will live atleast 5 years, if not more. According to statistics 91% live till they die of old age. I hope all goes well :)
9 :
I'm not, but one of the elderly gentlemen in my support group has been a colon cancer survivor for 12 years. he said that when he was diagnosed they told him he only had 6 months to live, but here he is proving them wrong
10 :
my mom suffered for 5 years and im only 11 and she died last week thats how i feel even know shes not here i think about her every day
11 :
my neighbor is 87 years old and he is a twelve year survivor, you better do full checkups because immediate family members have a good chance to have it. my best wishes for all
12 :
My rectal cancer was in the infancy stage. The doctor found it by mistake, during a prostrate test. This biggest thing is being aware; the lack of education is the real killer.

Should a person with colon cancer drink juices

Should a person with colon cancer drink juices?
I know a person who was operated about a month ago because of colon cancer, we talked to a doctor and he said that drinking lots of juice is going to be good but I thought that drinking juice would be bad because not drinking them would mean less acid which would mean giving you re digestive system a rest!!! THOUGHTS any one??
Cancer - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The acid shouldn't affect the colon. The juice has already broken down at that point. As long as it is pasteurized it will be safe.
2 :
Not all juices contain acid and once they reach the colon, they've already gone through the stomach and the acid in the stomach has already broken it down. Drink all the juice you want. I won't hurt. Just stay away from prune juice for now. Blessings
3 :
Definitely, lots of juices, the more the better. Here I mean the natural juices made in a blender or juicer, not that concentrated, pasteurized, floor cleaner appropriate rubbish sold frozen or in bottles. Those are the kinds of juices that are acidic, and they should be avoided . The naturally made blended juice is not acidic, but alkaline, which is much more healthier for anybody coping with health problems. The healthiest juices are citrus, or, especially beet/carrot or broccoli juice. Add tomatoes to the vegetable juices to improve their flavour and make a V8 type drink. They should be drunk several times a day.

How serious is colon cancer and can it be treated if its at an early stage

How serious is colon cancer and can it be treated if its at an early stage?
From being a patient of colon ulser and after years of that you found out it has turn cancerous. Can that be treated after an operation if its still at early stage.

1 :
Colon cancer in an early stage that has not spread has a good prognosis.
2 :
if in its early stages, yes, that is why colonoscopies are so important, esp.after, I believe 40.
3 :
Colon cancer is one of the more serious cancers. It needs to be detected and treated early. Or else.
4 :
Colon cancer is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the colon. Age and health history can affect the risk of developing colon cancer. Possible signs of colon cancer include a change in bowel habits or blood in the stool. Tests that examine the rectum, rectal tissue, and blood are used to detect (find) and diagnose colon cancer. Certain factors affect prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options.
5 :
my uncle died from it......not too scare you....He didnt catch early enough.....Your in an early stage so theres alot more medical things you can do im sure.....Talk to your Dr....My prayers are with you.....Best wishes
6 :
Serious enough to be one of the leading cause of cancer death in Singapore. In part due to lack of a high fibre diet, this can be fatal if not treated early. With early treatment there is a chance of survival. Have to watch diet thereafter. So seek treatment early otherwise there is not much the best doctor can do for you. Lost a family member to this disease. Did not diagnosed early enough and by then it was too late.
7 :
Try cancercenter.com or webmd.com for more info on colon cancer. Work closely with your doctor or oncologist. You may also find useful info and good suggestions in: Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Patrick Quillen How to Prevent & Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine - Murray et al. Good luck and God bless!
8 :
it can be treated if caught early... talk to your doctor only he can give you the answers you need since we have no idea what your chart says... once you have the info do a goolge search and get the info you need to get better.... hugs and kisses best of luck
9 :
Any cancer is serious, which is why the medical community stresses the importance of regular checkups in order to find cancer at an early stage, when it is most curable.Colon cancer can be cured if it is an early stage and has not spread to nearby organs or lymph glands.Find out more at webmd.com, or type in American cancer society for their website. Also, you can CALL the National Institutes of Health cancer hotline (find it on their website) to get up to the minute treatment options for any type of cancer.
10 :
Please check this 2 web addresses for coloncleansing and more
11 :
Colon cancer is an aggressive disease that is serious and deadly if left untreated. If found at an early stage, surgery can be curative and chemotherapy can improve the chances of cure depending on how advanced the cancer is. A consult with an oncologist should clarify the prognosis and treatment options. And there are a lot of information on the web regarding this disease. To clarify colon cancer screening: everyone after age 50 is advised to undergo colonoscopy to screen for this disease. But the screening should be earlier for those who have family members who have colon cancer before the age of 50.
12 :
Both my mom and grandmother were diagnosed with colon cancer. My moms' was detected early, she had surgery, and is in remission. My grandmothers' wasn't found so early, she had surgery and has a colostomy bag, as well as she takes chemo every week. God love her, she's doing wonderful. So, if caught early, your chances of being put into remission are very high. Good luck and best wishes to you.
13 :
Not to worry. Colon cancer in the early stages is usually able to be removed by removing the section of the colon that has a growth on it. My uncle just went through this and he has recovered well.
14 :
Yes, it can be treated after it's been found, even after later detection. The earlier the better. More than likely, from colon cancer, the patient will end up with an ostomy of some sort, so that you can still have a bowel movement and give your colon a rest if they are able to leave it in. Some cases of colon cancer call for the entire colon to be removed resulting in a permanent ostomy. Probably rounds of chemo and radiation will be the standard of care. If it is too late in the detection, the doctor may not do any of that. It just depends on the situation and the circumstances surrounding the disease. If you don't know what an ostomy is or the different types, you can do a google search for more complete information on it. I say if it helps save your life, then have at it!

blood in your stool
2 :
this doesn't sound like cancer. polyps will cause bleeding though as well as fissures and hemmoroids. However, what you describe sounds liek Crohn's disease. (I got it...I should know!) I suggest going to a gastroentrologist asap!

How exactly does cancer kill you? For instance breast or colon cancer

How exactly does cancer kill you? For instance breast or colon cancer?
I understand brain cancer or lung because if those parts of you die you do as well. But im confused because i'v asked everyone, but no one really can make me understand. And why do some people survive and others dont? Is it a matter of a will to live? Do some people just give up Hope? I really need to know these answers! Can anyone help????

1 :
If breast cancer or colon cancer is not treated before it gets advanced, it spreads to other organs such as liver, lungs and brain. As it spreads, it disrupts the function of the those organs and eventually causes death. Survival depends on what stage the cancer is found at, the treatments available for that type of cancer, how well the cancer responds to treatment and to a degree, the person's willingness to fight and live.
2 :
well ill tell you it depends on when they catch it my mom had colon cancer she died slow and painfully i watched her wither away to skin and bones and belive me she wanted to live
3 :
it spreads to different parts(vital organs) of your body, idk why some people live and others dont, but youre a stronger person if you keep your will and always believe there is still hope. My childhood friends dad was told he only had 6 months 12 years ago, sometimes doctors arent right.
4 :
Cancer is basicly a rebel cell, different from the line. the Genes inside of it is all messed up and reproduce as not being compatible with the rest of the cells. these cells are very infectious, they spread to other organs, heart, liver, kidney, colon, spine, lungs, ETC.
5 :
You have a number of good answers already. This is my medical specialty, so I have seen death from breast cancers and colon cancers many hundreds of times. Colon cancers usually like to go to the liver where they eventually cause liver failure. They do not become "liver cancer" - it is colon cancer growing in the liver. Retroperitoneal lymph nodes and the lungs may also be sites of spread for colon cancers. For unknown reasons, colon cancers do not like to go to the brain or the bones. In some cases it is a matter of tumor volume causing weakening and malnutrition of the person affected. In those cases a late infection can cause death. Breast cancers go almost anywhere - brain, bones, bone marrow, liver, lungs, adrenal glands, ovaries - but usually not the heart. (Only melanomas seem to metastasize to the heart.) So breast cancers can end life by causing "end organ failure" due to involvement of vital places such as the lungs, liver, and brain - or there can just be an overwhelming tumor burden that the body cannot support - again the general weakening effect and late stage infection such as pneumonia. Remember that breast cancer spread to the bone is not "bone cancer" - it is still malignant breast tissue that is growing in the bones which might respond to - but not be cured by - hormonal therapy. Hope this isn't too grisly for you. These are bad diseases when widespread. The best situation is to catch breast or colon cancers early with screening. Both are usually cured when caught early. Once breast cancers or colon cancers are clearly evident as visible metastatic disease, neither is considered curable in today's medicine. The people who are cured - and there are millions in the U.S. - are the ones diagnosed earlier in the stage of their diseases.
6 :
I am not a doctor or a nurse. I am 21 years old. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2007.They said I had Lynch Syndrome. i was 19 years old. it had spread to my liver. kidney and lungs. I went through radiation and chemo. i am still alive. im not speaking for everyone but when i got down and wanted to give up is when my body was the worst. when I had hope and faith that I would make it is when I did better. I still have cancer and im still fighting. But im my eyes..if Ive made it this far then I'll make it to the end.
7 :
cells that differentiate both in shape and function happen at all times in our bodies. the problem begins when our, immune system fails to destroy them. the go unnoticed, are highly active therefore consume more energy than normal cells, displace functional tissue around, obstruct vessels and other ducts. these cells do not look or function like their progenitors, so organs that are being replaced by them, will eventually fail to function. the body depends on these organs to function.

Question concerning a colon cancer screening, can you help

Question concerning a colon cancer screening, can you help?
My father who's 50 is going in a couple of days to do screening for colon cancer. My mom is concerned that the risks outweigh the benefits. She said she heard from someone that theres a chance of them rupturing something while conducting the screening. My question is wether this type of screening runs big risks or relatively small risks. I dont know the exact name for the procedure.
Cancer - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Colonoscopy has come a long way in the last few years. There are relatively few risks with the procedure and a rupture is very very rare. Usually the only way something like that happening is if someone has very advanced cancer already. Believe me, if his Dr has ordered this test, it is needed and safe. If you have concerns you can ask for the statistics and even a video of the surgery.
2 :
Your dad is probably going to have a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy. They are basically the same thing except a colonoscopy goes in farther. They put a flexible tube in your rectum. It has a camera on the end of it. They move it through your intestines and look around. They are able to see if anything looks suspicious. If anything does, they can take a biopsy right there. It is a pretty safe procedure. Millions are done every day. The chance of perferation is a small possibility, but the benefits definitely outweigh the risks. I would urge people who are age 50 and older, or younger people that have other risk factors to please have this done. It can save lives! I see far too many people die of cancer in my job as a cancer nurse. These tests are available and I wish more people would take advantage of them. Please urge your parents to get this test done.
3 :
Well, I have to assume you meant he's going to have a colonoscopy. A colon cancer screening could be as simple as testing stool for blood. You dad will be put to sleep for the procedure. The doctor will use a long tube-like device with a tiny camera at the end to examine his colon. Mostly looking for polyps, often precursors to colon cancer. It is a very safe procedure that doesn't take long at all, no more than about 30 minutes from start to finish. Recommended for ppl over 50, every 10 years if symptom free.
4 :
maybe you are referring to colonoscopy.an endoscope is usually inserted through anus. then, the examiner may observe for any abnormal growth in the colon.it won't have a big risk since the examiner sees where the scope is passing.but then, i would suggest that you or your mom should talk to the physician before conducting the screen since a consent is to be signed before doing the procedure. you always have the right to clarify things with the doctor as not to add anxiety especially that you are not really that aware of what kind of screening is to be done. good luck to you and may your dad get well=) by the way, have you heard about nuga best? it could help your dad for treatment. it is an alternative medicine and effective too. i heard they have it in germany, asia and some part of US too. if you havent heard about it, try to search it on the net nuga bed or nuga best. any of the two. it is actually a bed with jade roller and turmanium stone,=)
5 :
I had a Colonoscopy myself today the risk of the Doctor rupturing something during a Colonoscopy is very low.Your father will be fine during the Colonoscopy .Colonoscopy prep this the worst thing as far as Colonoscopy go
