What is the diff btw the pain in the colon and ovarian cyst? Ive had cancer in the past and col pain same?
I had non-hodgkins lymphoma in my colon and it spread to my liver and it was the agressive kind and now I'm in remission for three yrs. I also have an ovarian cyst which is the size of a golf ball or more from my x-ray about a year ago and I can feel it. My oncologist sent me to the obgyn but I've lost my insurance, so for almost a year now, I haven't been seen. I'm scared but with no insurance unless you go to the hospital with screaming pain they won't see you. I'm worried its the non-hodgkins coming back b/c I've had other symptoms as well. But, the cyst is so large, it could make sense that it is causing the pain. But they are located in the same place so I dont know which one it is.

Colon cancer do i have it
Colon cancer do i have it?
Hi im 20 years old and one day i went to bathroom and i was constipated then I couldn't go anymore so after 4 days i went to teh doctor they take x-ray and they told me my intestine were full! like really full so they give me prescription ratio lactulose(a laxatif) it work until two days ago I couldn't go at all to the bathroom and then today everything is normal my belly is really swollen like really I even pass a pregnant test but I wasn't the fact is I really need that stuff to go to the bathroom if not I can't go it won't work! do i have colon cancer should I go back to the doctor and I found a little bit (just a little bit of red blood in my poop!) I'm really scared and i start eating really healthy! the most symptomes I have is can't go to the bathroom my belly is really swollen a little bit of blood(but this is really really not often) and my belly doesn't hurt but yesterday it was so swollen it kind of bother me!

Go and speak to a doctor, they will be able to o ffer you a complete and proper diagnosis and refer you to a specialist if they feel it is necessary. Please don't leave your health up to yahoo answers :(

I do not think you have colon cancer. The little bit of blood is probably from the pressure you are putting on your colon in trying to push out the crap (no pun intended). I suggest getting a series of colonics. This will get the feces out of your system. Also, you need to look at your diet. If you are holding everything in and do not have at least one bowel movement a day, your body is absorbing all those toxins and THAT will make you sick. But, you are 20, you can change all of this around. I would still see a doctor for a check up. Good Luck. Also, do not worry...it will make you more constipated. Seriously, get a colonic!!!!

Sounds like you need a complete physical including a colonoscopy... could just be a simple medical condition but you will need to get this checked out

You have not described colon cancer. It sounds to me like you had severe constipation or even fecal impaction. This is dry, hardened stool that is stuck in the colon. A small amount of blood in the stool is not uncommon (you may also have developed an anal fissure) and the abdominal bloating is expected. To prevent this in the future, you are wise to eat a healthier diet. Include not just fiber but 3 liters of water a day. Constipation can be caused by inadequate fluid intake and not just be lack of dietary fiber. Increase your physical activity to stimulate persitalsis. Ask your doctor about short-term use of a stool softener (docusate). This can be purchased OTC. Although you won't believe this, you got off easy this time. If this happens again, you may need a digital disimpaction.

Since you are so young, I do not believe that you are likely to have an advanced form of cancer, so your emphasis should be on prevention. Red blood is not a sign of cancer. Black blood MIGHT be. Keep eating healthy (at least lots of higher fibre foods) and go back to your doctor. If you were to get a cancer (and 1 in four people do), then colon cancer is actually a "good" one to get, because with early detection it is 100% curable. My father was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. Despite the fact that he presented quite typical symptoms (such as yours!!) to his doctor for a year, THAT DOC never ordered any tests, nor did he do a rectal exam. I finally got my father to my doctor, who at once did a rectal exam and then sent him for further testing. 3 days later my father had BRIGHT RED blood coming from his rectum, and a ton of it.......this led us to the hospital emergency room where after a series of tests, he was admitted........ To make a long story short......go to your doctor at once! Do not rely on answers you may get here!!!! PLEASE insist that your doctor at least order a colonoscopy, which will definitely tell one way or another !!! I have a family history of colon cancer. I am 34 and I had colonoscopy 3 years ago. When should I repeat it?

Best advice can only come from your doc, as he/she is only one that knows the specifics of your family history (sibling, parent, grandparent, cousin) as well as details of your colo-rectal functions (often have blood in stool; do not empty bowels on regular basis; etc.). IIt also depends on what the colonoscopy showed.

For the higher risk individual the American Cancer Society and most specialists recommend that you have an initial colonoscopy at age 40 or when you are 10 years younger than the relative or family member who has already been diagnosed. After the initial, repeat every 5 years.

Colonoscopy should be done on all adults over 50. With a family history sooner. Since my mother died of colon cancer, I now get one every 3 years. That is my doctor;s recommendation.

They suggest every 5 years for regular risk, every 3 for increased risk patients. Also, they suggest getting a fecal occult blood test done every few years too - this just entails taking a sample into your doc.

If you had 2 or more close relatives with colon cancer and have been advised a regular colonoscopy, then every 3 years colonoscopy is advised and fecal occult blood test should be done 6monthly to annually. What is considered early detection of colon cancer
What is considered early detection of colon cancer?
is showing signs of symptoms beyond what is considered early detection? Perhaps I should clarify....I am wondering what is considered early detection. Is onset of symptoms past early detection? Thus, what seems like a much lower cure rate...

Early detection is when you have a colonoscopy and they find a nodule, then remove it. Having symptoms is past earliest detection but if having any symptoms you should see your Dr. immediately. Many other things besides cancer have similar symptoms.

In my opinion, any polyp removed, even if it is non-cancerous, is virtually the only "early" detection. Seems once there are any signs or symptoms, it is already serious. My Mom had the diagnosis almost 4 years ago, it was only in the colon, no lymph involvement, and no metastisization to organs. Now, she has had it come back for the second time, in the lymphs, and now again in the colon, and is considered a Stage IV. Her's was caught "relatively early" and it doesn't seem to matter.

But if there is no such medical history and you haven't had a colonoscopy the first symptoms can escape your notice. You see, the first symptom is microscopic loss of blood with the stools, that means that you gradually lose blood and you don't see it. It is true that when a person comes with unexpalined anemia. one of the first diagnostic procedures is a colonoscopy. If there are more symptoms, like pain, change of the bowel habits , massive hemorhage or blockage, we are way past first signs

far that it is terminal to me? will i die? im 22 im so worried i see blood when i wipe and its super thin stool and im super bloated... im really worried. i did have thin stool about a year ago the pencil thin type but no blood during that time... how long does colon cancer take until it reaches the terminal area?

You've had the symptoms of colon cancer for two days and you think it's terminal? I think you should go and see your doctor for a check-up and a bit of education. Terminal cancer doesn't appear in two days, nor is there a 'terminal area'. It looks like you're either trolling or trying to offend those who post here who are suffering from cancer.

They can see everything in the colon and if there are polyps, they can be removed right then and there. I don't know if you've ever had this test but you don't feel anything because you are put to sleep. At least, I'm always put to sleep. So bottom line, go see a doctor first and foremost and don't put yourself in a panic without any test. Chances are at your age, there is no colon cancer. Please help!! Could I possibly have colon cancer at age 17?
For awhile now, I've had constant diarrhea and I've been having bowel movements way more frequently. The other day I had blood in my stool. I often have gas and cramps in my stomach. Colon cancer runs in my family but I am only a teenager. Could I have cancer? I am terrified to go to a specialist but I know I might need to if that's what my doctor recommends. Please help! I've had these symptoms for a few weeks or a month now.

Hey, cheer up, it probaly turns out fine. But it's possible yes. So go get your doctor, and he's probaly better to answer this question than people on Yahoo.

Blood in your stool can come from different sources - hemorrhoids, rectal fissures from all the diarrhea plus bowel disorders and diseases in addition to cancer. It can also come from a bacterial infection of your bowel. Hopefully, you have taken some immodium to try and stop the diarrhea, changed your diet to bulk up your stools and added a container of yogurt to your diet which will help decrease the diarrhea. Your first stop should be your family doctor who can run all the basic tests needed to determine whether this is something minor that can be easily treated or if you need a referral to a specialist.

For awhile now, I've had constant diarrhea and I've been having bowel movements way more frequently. The other day I had blood in my stool. I often have gas and cramps in my stomach. Colon cancer runs in my family but I am only a teenager. Could I have cancer? I am terrified to go to a specialist but I know I might need to if that's what my doctor recommends. Please help! Blood in your stool can come from different sources - hemorrhoids, rectal fissures from all the diarrhea plus bowel disorders and diseases in addition to cancer. It can also come from a bacterial infection of your bowel. Hopefully, you have taken some immodium to try and stop the diarrhea, changed your diet to bulk up your stools and added a container of yogurt to your diet which will help decrease the diarrhea. Your first stop should be your family doctor who can run all the basic tests needed to determine whether this is something minor that can be easily treated or if you need a referral to a specialist.

I don't want to scare you but yes you can get colon cancer at any age. You have to tell your doctor; being afraid is not going to help anything. Protonix and colon cancer
Protonix and colon cancer?
I am a student nurse and a patient I am taking care of is on Pantoprazole Inj (Protonix). She recently had her part of her colon removed due to cancer. I read this med is for erosive esophagitis assoc. w/ GERD. How would this be related to her colon cancer or would they be separate issues?

Well the strength of protonix is insane! It basically eliminates most stomach acid....which...the obvious reason we have stomach acid is bc it breaks our food down. But when we dont have much left bc of it being neutralized....its possible that the digestive system can get out of wack. I doubt they are directly connected though.
