-My dog Sable has just recently passed away of colon cancer. We noticed that he started to swell and bleed from his butt. The cancer was so aggresive and rapid that it had stopped him from using any type of restroom in 4 days. It went from the size of a dime to the size of the tubes in his colon. We love sable very much and I was just wondering, what could've been some symptoms and how could we of caught it?

regular trips to the vet for checkups often catches cancers in pets early enough for treatment.

With a cancer that is very fast growing, I don't think you could have done much more. I am sorry that you lost your dog. I had a dog who got bone cancer. It was in her elbow joint. I could actually see it growing while the vet waited for the tests to come back! In two weeks, it had really grown. She had her shoulder blade and leg removed and she lived a few more years. When the cancer is an internal type, unless the dog loses its appetite, how would you know until it is bad? I give my dogs fish oil supplement every day now. I did lose my cocker spaniel at age 16 to colon cancer too, in 2006. He had symptoms like your dog. There isn't much to do but let go. Dogs get extremely aggressive cancers sometimes.
