Can someone explain the blood tests after being diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer

Can someone explain the blood tests after being diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer?
My dad had colon cancer stage 1 and had surgery in dec to remove it. His doctors do blood tests on him every three months. Can someone explain what kinds of tests these are. His test that he just had a month ago came back abnormal and his doctor ordered a ct scan. Could cancer already be back. We don't live near each other so I can't go with him to the doctor. Please explain

If your dad had actual stage one colon carcinoma, the odds are that it would not be back after surgery only 8 months ago - unless the initial staging was wrong. How old is he ? That simple information is so critical on this site. The three month test is probably a CEA serum marker test. It could be a CA19-9. http://www.tc-cancer.com/tumormarkers.html It sure would help if you could tell us which test he had done - and what the result was. Of course the doctors who know all the details of his case could explain this much better. Best advice always is to go with your family member when he or she sees their doctors who have all the facts of the case. - - - - My mother lives 600 miles away. I drove to be with her when she went to her doctor for bladder cancer follow-up. You can't expect the doctors to call every family member for every patient. All of my patients had cancers. There were not enough hours in each day to call all concerned family members about test results. I recall one evening I explained the test results for one patient eight different times for different family members who called my emergency line. It took hours. Doctors understand the concern that family members have. It is just impossible to tell everyone individually. Unlike lawyers, doctors do not charge for all the hours on the phone explaining things over and over - usually late in the evening or late at night.

Hi This does not answer your particular question but it may give you some insightful information on natural treatment to add to current treatment. I'm not sure if my answer helps but it's worth a try. I'm all for trying to find natural cures/help to medical conditions as drug intervention sometimes makes matters worse, which has been widely reported. If I was diagnosed with Cancer I would definitely try the pepper rout first. It's natural, it costs a few £/$ and it has very few side effects. Quite the opposite of current cancer treatments. Why is it not widely promoted: it doesn't make the drug companies any money. If you can suffer eating the pepper themselves raw try the very hot CHILLI pepper sauce you can buy in a bottle. Check the label for the right kind of peppers and make sure the peppers in in the first 3 things on the ingredients list. Add this to everything you can eat daily. In CULTURES WHERE HOT PEPPERS ARE EATEN WITH EVERYTHING THE OCCURRENCE OF CANCERS IS MUCH LOWER. CAN THIS REALLY JUST BE A COINCIDENCE? Here are a few LINK so YOU can RESEARCH it for your self. I hope it helps. Interesting answers up there. This test is of CEA levels. It will detect recurrences if any. CT scan could have been ordered simply for follow-up.
