Ignore statistics, they are not meant for individual patients. Stage IV can be successfully treated as I know individuals who are survivors. It is not easy, however, and much will depend on the skill of the oncologist, the patients overall health, fitness, age, specific location of disease, and response to first line treatment. Statistics are used to track diseases, they are not intended to measure how long a patient has to live. Too many other factors come into play here.
