My 60 year old mother had a colonoscopy where they discovered blood in her colon. She's not saying much but has to have a stomach biopsy as well as a colon biopsy. What could this mean?

It could mean several things. Could be an ulcer, my father in law recently had the same finding and it was an ulcer. He was actually passing bloody stool. It could be something worse. Try to stay positive and not worry too much. I know it is hard not to worry about someone you love, but it doesn't do anyone any good. If she isn't talking about it, odds are she is a worried too. Take her out and have some fun. When she is ready she will talk to you.

your doctors may be thinking of an inflammatory bowel disease - maybe Crohn's Disease. they may be looking for clues under the microscope on why your mother bled.
