How colon cancer cause a homeostatic imbalance in the body?
Please be specific. I have been looking on the internet for hours and i still cannot find a good reason why exactly what causes a homeostatic imbalance in colon cancer. Please help me!!!!

do you even understand what homeostasis is? if you did, you might have a better chance of understanding how homeostasis is changed by any cancer. in colon cancer, the tissues become unstable and no longer do the job they are intended to do, so the body cannot adequately feed or hydrate itself, homeostasis goes out of balance. the tissues also become friable and weak, tend to bleed a lot, blood loss is a homeostatic imbalance also. to understand what is happening you first have to educate yourself as to what the terminology you are using means.

Colon cancer is a tumor that is a parasite and toxin to the host and it has the capacity to kill the host. I had surgery 4 weeks ago for a cancerous tumor in my colon and my body was sick. Reasons I would say were the tumor was bleeding so I was losing blood which resulted in low iron and anemia. The tumor also released chemicals into my system that increased my metabolism so I was losing weight without trying. The tumor was taking nutrients away from my body so I was losing nutrition. It was also getting bigger and almost blocking the passage of food along my colon. I am doing better now and I am so glad that it was found and taken out of my body. I hope my first-hand experience and knowledge I have now gained from it and from reading up and learning more about the condition that affected my body helps you.

How long can some one live with colon cancer ?
Location - Oregon, Salem Age - 15 (16 nov 30) Diagnosed - Yesterday Stage of colon cancer - 2 Sex - Female She is the most important person to me in my life we met August 3, 07 over myspace if she goes I go. Having getting told you have cancer almost your birthday is so sad to me makes me cry why does this have to happen My girlfriend You did answer my question but being rude I want more opinions about this

patients today with metastatic colon cancer can live for years. The efficacy of chemotherapy has tremendously increased, now with chemotherapy tumors shrink more than half in about 50-60% of patients, some of patients with metastatic disease into the liver, can be operated because of the shrinkage, therefore some patients with metastatic disease can be cured. Over the last 5 years the survival quadripled. Some state that cancer may become a chronic disease. I have many patients with metastatic disease who living 3,4 or 5 years or longer.

I'm so sorry to hear that. With type 2 cancer I thought they could still have surgery. Colon cancer is supposed to be one of the easier ones to get rid of. I know a couple of people who had it a long time ago and they had surgery and one had chemo and they are still alive.

This type of caner can be treated, and people do live out their lives. I have 2 friends that actually went through this and they are doing fine. And theirs were very serious. The doctors just removed the colon and put a bag on them and they are just fine now! :) Its a very sad day to find out a love one has cancer. I lost both my parents at a young age to cancer ( not colon). Cancer cells are hereditary to some extent. She needs to be strong, and she needs a friend to be strong for her. I wouldn't cry around her because she is going through a difficult time. Be there for her. God Bless

would suggest that you read the article by Stephen Jay Gould titled 'The Median isn't the Message' about cancer and statistics. Gould had abdominal mesothelioma and when he asked his doctor for literature to read about it, he was told there was nothing interesting that he would find. He went ahead anyway and discovered that abdominal mesothelioma was considered a terminal disease. At best he had 8 months to live. Gould, an intellectual, set about figuring out what his real chances as individual were against such a brutal statistic. What he discovered was that despite the poor prognosis that in his individual case he had a much better chance at surviving. What he learned was that statistics do not tell the whole story. Gould went on to live another 20 years before dying from a secondary cause. Someone with a stage 3 colon cancer has a chance at remission. A chance at life. Didnâ€™t you just ask this question not long ago? In that answer I explained that it is nearly impossible for a 15 year-old to get colon cancer. Now I have no doubt someone is not telling the truth, because if she were diagnosed yesterday there is no way the stage would be known today.

well. I have Lost 3 family members due to cancer and had 1 survive. the three that died had very very bad cancers and the 1 that survived had colon cancer.. This is the cancer that is one of the easier ones to treat.. It is Not in any way a death sentence. You need to support her and go about your life with her as if she didn't have it... More likely than none she will be Just fine.

Yes,I don't know if I really have colon cancer or not.And I am to embaressed to ask my doctor if I do,considering the fact that I would have to tell him that I have blood in my stools.

Please don't be silly. Let your doctor know about your situation. Believe me as a doctor we see lot's of weird things and this is not one of them. Blood in stool can mean many different things from gastric ulcers to hemorrhoids. It is very important for you to let him/her know so the problem can be discovered and fixed.

No, bleeding can be for many reasons. Most likely not colon cancer, that tends to be largely asymptomatic. If it is bright red it means it is bleeding in your large intestine. It doesn't mean its not internal, it means the blood hasn't been digested by our enzymes. This digestion will only happen in the small intestine, hence the bless from the small intestine will come out a different color. If it is blackish or very dark purple/brown it means its bleeding somewhere in your small intestine. Hemorrhoids are a common cause of bright red bleeds. Tell your doctor. Thats what they are there for. They are pretty cool about this kind of thing. And if they aren't then tell them loudly you don't like the manner in which they treat you and get another doctor.

If the blood is bright red, like from a cut it's not internal. Probably hemorrhoids. If the blood is dark and actually in your stool that is a little more questionable. Doctors see literally everything. Don't be afraid to sit down and talk to them. It is important to be able to discuss your concerns and symptoms. I'm sure whatever it is it's nothing they haven't seen or dealt with hundreds of times before. Look at it this way. If you can manage to take an hour out of one day you will feel so much better in the long run. Good luck.

ALWAYS tell your doctor if you have blood in your stools because it means SOMETHING IS WRONG in your digestive tract and has to be investigated. As some of the others have mentioned, the color of the blood in your stool is significant. Bright colored blood could mean hemorrhoids and dark colored blood must surely be investigated. I am familiar with colon cancer because my dad and grandma died from it. Most of the time in the initial stages, there are hardly any symptoms. But once you pass out blood, it could already be stage one. But stage one colon cancer means that the survival rate is more than 90% and the patient need not go through chemotherapy. So, even if it is colon cancer, early detection can help you survive to a ripe old age. So I would suggest that you go see a doctor immediately. There is nothing to fear. In fact it will give you peace of mind. A friend of mine had blood in his stools and he thought he has hemorrhoids. He delayed seeing a doctor for 6 months. In the end, his whole rectum had to be removed and a colostomy has to be constructed to allow feces to flow out from his stomach into a bag. He no longer has control over his bowel movements. I hope you see a doctor immediately because too many people have ignored the early warning signs. BTW, no one here can tell from your symptoms whether you have or do not have colon cancer. Even the doctors cannot tell unless you go through a colonoscopy and have a fecal occult blood test. You make your own decisions. We are not qualified doctors here.
